Welcome to our Canon RF Shooters Forum

Be apart of something great, join today!

I'm in the process of getting up to speed with the RF100mm.

Given my previous less than satisfying attempts at macro shots, focus bracketing is giving me hope for better flower and insect shots this year.
In the test shot below, the queen is in the rear and the rook (beserker) on the right is closest to the lense. The RF100 was mounted on an Oben table top tripod.

A few more. Sorry I only come here once a year and there is a service road right by the strip. At our local air show spectators are on the North side of strip is I have to shoot into the sun. I'm trying to find a different air show to attend. Next time I'm going to go for the landings.

The previous set and these are using the new Adaptive Colour profile in LrC which I'm trying out. ACR had it since last fall which was beta. Adobe just added it the other day.

Sorry for this type again. Lots of Ryanair's bringing down the partiers and stags/bachelorette celebrations coming from the UK :)

Hi Only RF,

A terrific series of 'BIF's' - always evokes the question of 'where are they heading to?'.

Beautifully controlled and a glorious sight.

Thank you for sharing... 🙂

Île aux Perroquets is a jewel among the string of islands making up the Mingan Archipelago, located north of the 50th parallel along the northern edge of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. This mythic island of limestone dominated by a lighthouse lies awash in the narrowest and most turbulent portion of the Jacques Cartier Strait separating the North Shore and Anticosti Island.

Île aux Perroquets is ideal for watching the flocks of seabirds that have flown here to breed. This rocky platform is home not only to the common puffin but also to the razorbill (alca torda), the black guillemot (cepphus grylle), the black-legged kittiwake (rissa tridactyla) and the common raven (corvus corax). For the most part, these species nest in the island’s cliffs and scree. The common eider (somateria mollissima) and a few gull species make their home there too.

Hi Rob,

Welcome to the thread!

A series of sublime captures showcasing this utterly spellbinding location and its absolutely wonderful and charming inhabitants (and your talents!).

Superbly controlled throughout, with terrific detail, rich colours and pleasing compositions - picking a favourite is impossible (but if pushed, it's #2).

The background information is both fascinating and very welcome.

Well done indeed - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

Volta, Albufeira, Potugal

I thought I'd be smart and not shoot at the start so there was some separation. I went to a spot about 3 hrs post start. Nope. Still bunched up. I probably had about a minute.

All rendered using the new Adobe Adaptive Color profile that was just added to LrC. Experimenting with it.

Hi Only RF,

Wonderful action shots - beautifully captured and presented.

The Adobe Adaptive Colour Profile seems to have dealt with these files most admirably - rich in detail and colour they are very pleasing to the eye.

Well done all-round - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

Beautiful Cheetah portrait. Thank you for the processing guide. I always find it useful to see how the people whose work I admire go about their “thing”. It’s never easy when in an ibvious zoo environment but you’ve brought out the best of it!
Hi Hali,

Cheers - very much appreciated! :)

With many of the historic houses closing over the winter and the rest of the country turning into a mud-bath, we tend to gravitate towards zoos for our weekend breaks during this period. Shooting and processing-wise they offer some interesting challenges and there's always somewhere to warm-up.

A few more from my immersed flower series. Working now with some textures and multiple exposures to get better flows. Not all are winners for me but I thought I’d post them View attachment 35154View attachment 35155View attachment 35156View attachment 35157
Hi Hali,

As beautiful and inspirational as ever - this is a wonderful and extremely pleasing technique you've mastered.

For us image #1 is the pick of this eye-catching crop, but they're all absolutely magical and utterly enthralling.

Well done - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi Walter,

Welcome to the thread!

Three interesting shots - this lens comes with an excellent reputation, ably demonstrated here with some terrific fine detail.

As you say, the trick (and fun) when shooting macro comes with achieving the desired depth of focus for any given subject.

We've not tried focus bracketing, but examples seen from other contributors on these threads have shown this technique can yield superb results.

Good luck with your endeavours - we look forward to seeing further results...

Hi Art,

The perfect 'R' of "Rotate', with a magnificent subject pose (love the undercarriage!), stunning detail, glorious eye-pop and scintillating colours.

Beautifully captured and presented - a joy to behold.

Well done - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

We're back with another haul of raw files (our recent zoo visits now amounting to 17,000 shots taken). Yet again what treasures awaited our return here!

A big 'Thank You' to everyone who has contributed to the monthly thread with images and comments during our absence - very much appreciated... :)

Our final images for this month's thread come once again from our favourite winter venue - Chester Zoo, Cheshire, England. (There's a lot more to come!).

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL Elite, Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels and Topaz Labs Photo AI. Compilations are: R7 Karen and R5 Phil).

Hi Only RF,

The colourful shots were absolutely splendid, but you know what we're going to gravitate towards...

Love the mix of the stunning sky and architectural finery in #1 and there's a wealth of interest in #2.

Great stuff - and thank you for sharing... 🙂

Hi Mike,

A series of dramatic and eye-catching abstract compositions featuring mesmeric patterns with scintillating colours set against inky black backgrounds.

Very nice - well imagined and captured.

Thanks!!

That's a better description than I thought of.
I'll try to make more soon :)

Hi Mike,

We'll look forward to seeing what you create... :)

(These would look fantastic printed onto high gloss acrylic and displayed on a suitable wall).

Hi Only RF,

A fantastic capture of a beautiful creature bathed in golden light.

Wonderful.

Thanks. I have been waiting to get that one for years. Don’t know how many times it was just too far. Took my wife for a walk in that area as she has never been there before and there it was. Took my camera just in case.

It's that time of year again. The ume (Japanese apricot) blossoms are starting to bloom (actually, a little late this year) and the warbling white-eyes are all over them.

Hi David,

A wonderful capture of a spectacular creature set against a beautiful background - what's not to like?!

Terrific details and rich colours are evident throughout - with absolutely superb eye-pop on the subject.

Well seen and caught - and thank you for sharing... 🙂
