If you're 100% manual then it doesn't matter. For most of my shooting I'm dealing with ever changing metering conditions. With wildlife they move in and out of shadows and backgrounds are ever changing, so I lock down shutter speed and aperture for the scenario and use Auto ISO almost...
And this is the toughest thing to get used to - they just meter completely differently. Gone is the focus point metering that made working with the D500 so nice, so now the exposure compensation wheel turns the classic "exposure triangle" into a square (actually, a pyramid). Takes time and...
Welcome, Nige - we've been making plans for you!! (Sorry, XTC reference for the lost)
Made the same change 2 years ago with (almost) no regrets. Big wildlife shooter here and if I regret anything it's that Nikon finally seems focused on good, light, economical long lenses, and outside of the...
Spent my $7.50. It looks like a very cool B&W conversion tool for not a lot of cash. I used to use Silver Efex until DxO bought them out and I had to jump through hoops to get it to work with Photoshop.
Thanks for the heads up.
I waste $10 ($8.50 w/ Dave's discount code) on a poorly made cocktail more times than I'd care to say, so at least with this I won't regret it as much. LOL
Too bad the video won't play (says it's private and I can't find anything on YouTube - since it's David Kelly maybe it's uploaded but scheduled to publish on "TK Friday"), but from what I can suss out this seems to automate and simplify a technique my brother (a lifelong pro who starting...
In the better late than never category, I got a call from my local dealer telling me my 200-800mm came in. I got it as I was starting to pack up my stuff at my Mom's place where I've been photographing the burrowing owls for the 3rd time this winter - the very thing I wanted the lens for. Got on...
I've not used one, but that is my impression. I believe it's only what you would see in the viewfinder and not on the rear display (they're not always identical).
They are made primarily for video, allowing you to 1) better see the viewfinder when shooting video, and 2) allowing you to record the viewfinder screen while shooting stills (what the guys who make the videos use to put up their vlogs). But just because its primary use is video doesn't mean it...
I got on a list for the 200-800mm early here in the US and am still without one, so I can't say for sure.
I shoot with an R7 and understand the low light situation. I also shoot with a 100-500mm and even at the long end (f7.1) it does fine in lower light situations with my R5, but will tend to...
I shot the D500 for years and loved it so much that when my brother, a pro news photographer who sot Canon, got a gig where they gave him an entirely new kit and he offered my his Canon DSLR gear to use I turned him down flat. When I switched to mirrorless and bought a Z6ii to start he loaned me...
Good to know. I never experienced that problem until Monday evening and I was worried that I'd lose my library (I have backups but didn't know if they were corrupt based on what I was seeing).
I thought I'd gotten on the waiting list at the usual place for the 200-800mm but I'm still waiting.
If anyone has a line on an available one at retail here in the States I'd much appreciate a heads up. I was hoping to have it while I'm still in FL.
