Birds  Got some shots tonight of our resident bald eagles.

They come back every year to the same nest that is right in the middle of a busy commercial area, but I guess they like the city life for a change. They had 2 chicks this year who are out flying to nearby tree branches close to the nest. I was shooting with my R7 and the RF 800mm f/11 mounted on...

Just added Photoshop Elements 2024 to my basket of post processing programs

My local photography club wanted to get back to having a monthly workshop on post processing which I have agreed to run for the next year. I pretty much use Lightroom, Bridge and Photoshop 95% of the time with a few plugins like Topaz Photo AI and Luminar Neo for the other 5%. But quite a few of...

Full Frame  Canon 200-800mm available if you are willing to pay the price!

I saw this on eBay. A store in Japan selling the very rare 200-800mm zoom lens that is backordered everywhere. They want just under $3000! Wonder if someone will buy it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/145615366959

Full-Frame  Canon RF 800mm F11 IS STM Image Thread

I was skeptical at first due to the small fixed aperture but in decent light this lens performs very well, it is sharp and extremely light. A great addition to the wildlife camera kit.

Full-Frame  Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM Image Thread

Nothing like the "nifty fifty"! I prefer this to the f/1.4 for it's weight and size. I especially like it for food shots either at home or dining out.

    People  Growing up!

While editing pictures I took of my granddaughter yesterday I remembered a shot I took of her 11 years ago on the same canvas background with similar lighting. Makes a fun comparison!

People  Granddaughter showing the lamb she raised

Spent a few hours yesterday at the school district's FFA (Future Farmers of America) lamb show where my 17 year old granddaughter was showing the lamb she raised. Took my R7 and RF 70-200m f/4 lens and also my RF 24-105mm which were perfect for this kind of stuff. She did her best but placed 7th...

Birds  Overcast morning but a few decent shots

Sunshine from yesterday is taking a break again, this morning was overcast with some fog off in the distance on the water. The water is up from yesterday and I almost didn't get into the park as the road is slowly being submerged. Birds seemed to be mostly sleeping in, a few resting pelicans...

Birds  Our wintering pelicans have arrived

We've had almost a week of rain, storms and cloud cover so it was nice to get out this morning in the sunshine. Our pelican population has really grown this week, today they were down along the shoreline of Lake Houston near my home. Had fun with the R7 and my Tamron 150-600mm lens.

Seriously considering the Canon RF 200-800mm lens

It's been getting pretty good reviews online from folks I respect like Duade Patton, Jan Wegener and Janine Krayer at Pangolin Wildlife. I own the Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens as well as the RF 800mm f/11 and like both. I would probably sell the 800 mm for no reason other than the 200-800mm is f/9...

Birds  Herons stalking their next meal

Super windy today so hardly any birds along the river bank except for a couple of herons who were patiently waiting for their next meal.

    People  First Anniversary portrait session

Today was my granddaughter and husband's first wedding anniversary. Last year I got a few shots at their small family wedding and then Christmas was upon us and they left later that day to go back to Washington where he serves in the Coast Guard. So I suggested a casual portrait session in my...

People  An attempt at Christmas season portraits of my grandchildren

When you shoot small children portraits things just don't usually go as planned. My daughter asked for a few portraits of her children before Christmas. No Problem, I said. I set up in my garage which is also my wood working shop and can be a small studio. My granddaughter was wearing a dress...

People  Santa portraits at a special needs school

Every year our photo club does the pictures at a local school for children and adults with special needs as they visit with Santa who is also one of our club members. Our usual member who does the pictures came down with Covid so I volunteered. It really was a fun event, the adults and children...

A few shots with my new Canon M6 Mk II and EF-M 32mm f/1.4 lens

I decided to get this camera as the M line is being discontinued, I still have 2 M5 bodies (one converted for infrared) and several EF-M lenses. I like the M line for travel where weight and carryon size is an issue.

Storing LR catalog on an external SSD with images is not working out

I took advantage of a Cyber Monday special on Amazon and got a 4 TB Samsung T7 Shield drive. I moved my entire image archive over to it as well as a copy of my LR catalog to work off of. I had seen a few YouTube videos that claimed it would run super fast this way. I do find it very fast but...

Dickens on the Strand in Galveston's historic district

Our British members might find this amusing, that we Americans love dressing up in Victorian costumes before the Christmas holidays. But it's all in good fun, Galveston was once one of the primary ports of entry for immigrants from England, Ireland, Germany and other European countries in the...

I did exceptionally well in our club contest!

One of the photo clubs I am in has an annual photo contest with judges who work in the field of photography. There are 8 categories and we can submit up to 2 images per category. 8 of my 16 images were chosen for the winner's circle and all of them were taken with my Canon R and R7 camera and 5...

Murals from my Texas trip this week

So many cities and towns have murals now that are painted by local artists and often have themes based on what is in the area. Here a few from the 5 towns I visited. I tend to try to crop the mural to look like it's on the wall in a gallery unless the surrounding subjects are of interest. And...

This one needed a bit of post processing!

The DeWitt county courthouse in Cuero, Texas is a beautiful building and unlike a lot of the old courthouses I saw is not shrouded in large live oak trees so it was possible to get a good shot of the front facade. Only problem was it faces west and the sun at 10 in the morning was pretty high...
