I saw this beautiful Cross Orb Weaver (Araneus diadematus) detaching a leaf from its web. It is living in one of the light fixtures on our back porch (which I didn't know until this morning). After some painstaking work, it dropped the leaf to the ground, ate some of the small flies it had trapped on the web and then started to repair the web. It didn't do much other than string a few more strands, but then I found out that they apparently eat their webs at night and remake them every morning. I will have to check after I get up to see what she strings up.

Lovely shots Hali! It's fascinating watching spiders work.

Thank you, Tim! I spent quite a bit of time watching it. Then it went into hiding in the light fixture.

Super shots Hali - #1 in particular. It is true they can eat their webs, though I have one near me that looks like its still using the same one - though it may well be different spins - hard to tell, lol..

Paul.

Thanks so much, Paul! I find it amazing that they eat their webs, but I think I was watching her do just that whilst she went back to her hiding spot, she had a mass of web and left just two thin strands behind her.

A good lens for what it does, with it's drawbacks
I have had this lens since it came out and it is my lightweight go to lens for walking around in the city and using my infrared-converted camera...
