Local organisations, shops and businesses decorate individual Christmas trees to create a magical and heartwarming festive display.

Maybe not as outwardly festive as the theme might warrant, but this image I took of a candle with some twinkling lights a few days ago feels really cozy and holiday-adjacent to me. I also used the spherical aberration control on the RF100mm macro lens, a feature I frequently see written off as a gimmick, but in this case it lent a really lush and dreamlike vibe to the image that left the frames I took without using that effect looking less interesting to me.

I dont' understand why Canon now records the in-camera ME's as .jpg instead of .tif as they used to.

Well certainly not our most popular monthly competition. In hindsight festivities probably wasn't the best choice since the majority of festivities this month will be happening after entries closed. Still, a big thank you to all who have entered this month. Voting is now enabled.

A big thanks to everyone who entered and voted in this months competition. Probably not our most popular theme of the year but with most festivities taking place closer to the end of the month it was probably a poor choice of theme for December, so I'll take the blame there.
  • 1st place with 4 votes was @Hali with a beautiful multiple exposure of the Boston Garden Christmas lights.
  • 2nd place with 3 votes was @PKM-UK with a lovely shot of St Edmund’s Christmas Tree Festival in Castleton, High Peak District, Derbyshire.
  • Also in joint 2nd place with 3 votes was @ctitanic with his shot of some christmas decorations out in the wild.
  • Also in joint 2nd place with 3 votes was @miuzi with his cosy candle shot. It's certainly hard to beat candles for creating a nice cost environment.
  • 3rd place with 2 votes was @PJ White with his shot of christmas past and present.
  • Also in joint 3rd place with 2 votes was @Nick L with the Christmas Grinch :)
Well with so few entries this month it looks like everyone is a winner :)

With a New Year just around the corner I'll be launching our first competition of 2025 tomorrow. I wish you all a fantastic start to 2025!
