Hello, and thank you for allowing me to join the forum.

Happy New Year to you all. At this moment in time I am not an R series camera owner. I am however, disposing of equipment from another hobby that has very much fallen out of favour over the last few years, due to injury and ill health.

It is my intention to use the proceeds from selling the other equipment to purchase the EOS R7, along with the RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM. I will need to purchase the EF adapter ring to use the lenses I currently own, but I plan upgrade my lenses over time.

I have been suffering ill health for about 7 years now, culminating in my need to use a mobility scooter outside of my home. Yes it has/does present challenges, especially over the last year as I got back into my photography.

My wife treated me to the SIRUI SVM Rapid System One-Step Height Adjustment Modular Monopod for Christmas. I can’t wait to get out there and test it out. I’m sure it will help relieve some of the pressure in my shoulders, arms and wrists, making my photography that much more enjoyable. I will post a review of the monopod at a later date if anyone is interested.

My photographic interests are classic cars shows, motor sport, architecture, wildlife, landscape and I’m even looking to have a go at astrophotography and street photography.

Well thank you for reading this and I look forward to reading the threads and interacting with the group.

Welcome Ian and Happy New Year to you too :) Sorry to hear about your ill health. Switching to a lighter setup sounds like a good option for you and the R7 is a cracking camera. If you have any questions about the forum here please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you for the welcome.

I can vouch for the 100-400. Every time I use mine, I'm amazed at the "performance per dollar". The relatively close minimum focus distance makes it pretty versatile, too.

Thank you for that. I have been doing my research for quite some time now and if money were no object I would go for the RF 100-500, but that is for the purchase following a lottery win.:D I am also considering the Sigma 10-18 F2.8 and the Sigma 18-50 F2.8, as I'm thinking the 10-18 F2.8 would be great not only for landscape, but astrophotography too.

Well, don’t take my word for it - I’m just some guy on the internet. Take it from a different guy on the internet:

I had the 100-500 as a rental for a week, and while it was a very nice lens, it was more than I want to lug around, and I realized how little need the extra 100mm.
