I agree with you on the perspective issues - tilt the camera just a bit from level and everything tilts with it. Wide angle lenses force you to think about foreground, as a great foreground helps to keep the camera level and reduce tilted buildings.
If Canon won't repair APS in the Chicago area probably will. I've not dealt with them, but they are highly recommended for Nikon service by Nikon fanatics (as a former Nikon shooter I have read only good reviews about APS). They repair Nikon, Canon and Sony gear and might be worth a phone...
Another fantastic set and great history! BTW, am I wrong or is this castle on the coast (what looks like beach and surf in the lower left-hand corner of the last photo)?
Canon USA does have a refurb site for ALL of their gear (cameras, lenses, speedlites, etc). I would presume that Canon UK would have a comparable site.
