Canon EOS R5 FAQs

What memory card does the Canon R5 support?

The Canon R5 has two memory card slots. Slot 1 supports CFexpress Type-B memory cards and slot 2 supports UHS-II SD memory cards.

What battery does the Canon R5 Support?

The Canon R5 supports the LP-E6NH battery, which adds 20 per cent more capacity than older LP-E6N batteries, letting you capture (on average) 490 shots on a single charge. Older LP-E6 and LP-E6N batteries are compatible with the R5, although the very fastest shooting rates and in-camera charging are not available when using the LP-E6.

How do you charge the R5 battery in camera?

LP-E6NH batteries can be charged in-camera via USB C 3.1, with 5V/1.5A power delivery (PD) capabilities.

What battery grip does the Canon R5 support?

The Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip is the official battery grip for the R5. This can accommodate two batteries at once for extended shooting times.

What battery level is required to shoot 12 fps using the mechanical shutter?

You’ll need a battery level of at least 60% to shoot at 12 FPS. When the battery drops below this charge level the frame rate drops to 8 FPS. It’s hard to fathom why Canon has implemented such a restriction, let’s just hope it gets removed in a future firmware update.

Is the Canon R5 a full-frame camera?

Yes. The Canon R5 is a full-frame 35mm camera.

What lenses does the Canon R5 support?

The Canon R5 has an RF lens mount and supports Canon RF lenses.

Can I use EF lenses on the Canon R5?

You can use EF lenses on the Canon R5 by using the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. There is also an EF-EOS R adapter with a control ring built in, a variable ND filter built in and a polarizer built in.

Is the Canon R5 waterproof?

Although the camera features a dust and water-resistant construction, this cannot completely prevent dust or water droplets from entering the camera. Therefore if you are using the R5 in very wet or dusty environments it’s recommended to use additional protection to keep your camera safe.

When was the Canon R5 launched?

The Canon R5 was officially launched on July 9th 2020.

About Timothy Mayo

I love shooting wildlife the most but will happily point my camera at pretty much anything. I started RFShooters.com with my amazing sister Emma to share our own adventure with the Canon R Series. At present I own the R5 + RF 100-500 lens. I also run a similar site for Sony Alpha Shooters and also shoot with a Sony A1. I find new camera technology fascinating so I unfortunately suffer from a very bad case of GAS! You can follow me on Instagram if you wish! Although I don’t post as often as I should.
