You are here: Home / Canon EOS R Mirrorless Cameras / Canon EOS RP Guides & Resources / Canon EOS RP Firmware 1.7.0 Released
Last updated: August 26, 2025 / Published: July 3, 2025 by Timothy Mayo

The latest version of the firmware for the Canon EOS RP is now version 1.7.0

What’s New in Firmware Version 1.7.0

Firmware Version 1.7.0 incorporates the following fix:
1. This firmware update ensures compliance with the EU RED EN18031 standard by removing certain network functions.
Affected Features:
Image Upload: Sending images to image.canon will be disabled.
FTP Transfer & Live Streaming: These functions will no longer be available after the update.

Important:
Please review the following information before proceeding with the update.
・Once installed, this update cannot be reversed. If you use these features, do not update the firmware.
・This change only affects cameras purchased in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa).
・Cameras purchased in other regions will retain these functions after updating; only the firmware version will change.

If the camera’s firmware is already Version 1.7.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

    Firmware Download

You can download the latest firmware from your local Canon support website. The below links will take you to the correct page to download the firmware. Make sure that you download the correct firmware for your computer (Windows or Mac).

    How to Install the Firmware

Updating the firmware for the Canon R6 is a very straight forward and painless process, especially compared to Sony firmware installs.

When you download the firmware it will include a PDF guide on how to install the firmware, you can also download this guide here.

There are two methods described in this guide, I’d recommend using the card reader in your camera.

Improvements from previous firmware versions are always included in the latest firmware version. So even if you have missed a couple of firmware versions, you only ever need to install the latest version.

    About Timothy Mayo

I love shooting wildlife the most but will happily point my camera at pretty much anything. I started RFShooters.com with my amazing sister Emma to share our own adventure with the Canon R Series. At present I own the R5 + RF 100-500 lens. I also run a similar site for Sony Alpha Shooters and also shoot with a Sony A1. I find new camera technology fascinating so I unfortunately suffer from a very bad case of GAS! You can follow me on Instagram if you wish! Although I don’t post as often as I should.
