The Canon R6 Mark II includes one Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery (7.2V, 2130mAh) in the box, that is providing it has been purchased from a genuine Canon retailer.
The older Canon LP-E6N and LP-E6 batteries are also supported in the R6 Mark II but only the LP-E6NH and LP-E6N support in-camera charging via USB.
This guide covers all of the battery and charging options for the R6 Mark II, including power banks and supported battery grips.

Official Canon Batteries
The official battery for the Canon R6 Mark II is the Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery (7.2V, 2130mAh).
The older Canon LP-E6N and LP-E6 batteries are also supported in the R6 Mark II but only the LP-E6NH and LP-E6N support charging over USB.
Canon LP-E6NH
The Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery (7.2V, 2130mAh) is the battery that’s included when you purchase your R6 Mark II from new, one of these should be included in the box.
If you need an extra battery then we would strongly recommend purchasing one or more of these official Canon batteries over third-party options.
This battery can be charged in-camera via a USB charger or supported power bank.
Depending on what you are shooting and how you are shooting, you’ll probably want at least 3 of these batteries for a full days shoot, possibly more for weddings or shooting video.
Canon LP-E6N
The Canon LP-E6N Lithium-Ion Battery (7.2V, 1865mAh) is an older battery that has been replaced by the more recent LP-E6NH battery.
This battery has been discontinued so isn’t easy to purchase, but you may already have some of these batteries if you have an older SLR camera like the Canon EOS 5D.
The capacity is slightly smaller than the new LP-E6NH battery (1865mAh vs 2130mAh) but it is supported in the R6 Mark II and it also supports in-camera charging.
Canon LP-E6
The Canon LP-E6 Lithium-Ion Battery (7.2V, 1800mAh) is an even older battery that has been discontinued.
Although this battery is supported in the R6 Mark II it does not support in-camera charging.
Official Canon Battery Chargers
The Canon EOS R6 Mark II includes one LC-E6 (US) / LC-E6E (Europe) battery charger in the box when purchased from new.
Canon LC-E6 / LC-E6E Battery Charger
The Canon LC-E6 (US) / LC-E6E (Europe) battery charger can be used to charge a single LP-E6NH, LP-E6N, LP-EL or LP-E6 battery.
It takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge one LP-E6NH battery.
Third-Party Batteries
We generally only recommend using genuine Canon batteries in your R6 Mark II because there is always a risk involved when using third-party batteries.
You have to ask yourself if saving a few dollars is really worth potentially damaging a $2,500 camera?
However, if you are still keen to save a few dollars then we would recommend the following third-party battery options.
Watson LP-E6NH
If you insist on using a third-party battery then Watson are one of the better third-party suppliers on the market.
The Watson LP-E6NH battery is known to work well in the Canon R6 but I’ve not yet heard how well it works in the R6 Mark II. I hope to test one of these soon so that I can provide a definite answer.

Third-Party Battery Chargers
Again, like with the batteries we would recommend only using the official Canon battery chargers. But if you are going to use the Watson batteries then you’ll definitely want to pick up the following charger as well.
Watson Mini Duo Charger
The Watson Mini Duo Charger supports simultaneous charging of two Watson LP-E6NH / LP-E6N / LP-E6 batteries via the included USB adapter.
To fully charge two batteries will take approximately 5-6 hours, so this is most definitely not the fastest of chargers.
Please do note that this charger does not support charging of the official Canon LP-E6NH / LP-E6N / LP-E6 batteries, only the Watson batteries and potentially other third-party batteries too.
The charger includes an LCD screen that displays the charge status and it includes built-in overcharge, short-circuit and power surge protections.

Battery Grip
If you need to double the battery life of your EOS R6 Mark II and also improve the ergonomics, then the addition of a battery grip is the way to go.
As far as we are aware only Canon are selling a batter grip for the R6 Mark II at this time.
Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip
The Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip holds one or two Canon LP-E6NH batteries. It also adds additional controls to make shooting vertically a lot more comfortable.
The grip has been designed using similar materials to the R6 Mark II and the buttons also have the same tactile feedback.
This battery grip is also supported with the R6 Mark I, R5 and R5C.
USB Charging
Only the Canon LP-E6NH and LP-E6N batteries support in-camera charging via the R6 Mark II’s USB-C connector.
The Canon LP-E6 along with third-party batteries do not support in-camera charging over USB.
Canon PD-E1 USB Power Adapter
The Canon PD-E1 USB Power Adapter is the official USB charging adapter for the R6 Mark II.
With this adapter you can charge either the Canon LP-E6NH or LP-E6N batteries in-camera via USB-C.
However, the battery will only charge when the R6 Mark II is powered off.
You can also power the R6 Mark II using this adapter but when the camera is turned on the battery will stop charging.
Anker PowerPort III 65W Pod
The Anker PowerPort III 65W Pod will also allow you to either charge the LP-E6NH / LP-E6N in camera when turned off, or power the R6 Mk II when the camera is turned on.
It will take approximately 3 hours and 8 minutes to charge the Canon LP-E6NH battery inside the R6 Mark II using this charger.

USB Power Banks
You can also charge the R6 Mark II’s battery (LP-E6NH / LP-E6N) using a power bank (when turned off) or power the camera when the camera is turned off.
Typically you will need to use a power bank that supports power delivery of 45 watts and above if you want to power the R6 Mark II. That said, we have tested a 60 watt Anker power bank that wouldn’t power the R6 Mark II when the camera was switched on, so there’s no guarantee that it will work unless it has been specifically tested and confirmed to work.
Anker PowerCore+ 26800mAh PD 45W
The Anker PowerCore+ 26800mAh PD 45W has been certified by Canon to work with the R6 Mark II.
We have also tested this power bank with the R6 Mark II and it will charge the R6 Mk II’s battery (LP-E6NH / LP-E6N) when the camera is switched off, or alternatively power the camera when switched on.

LP6N cannot be charged from any PD power bank(tried 45W chargers) as well as from a wall charger (tried 45W/65W). Please do recheck and re-validate on the details please.
Same chargers work on the LP 6NH.
