Canon has announced two new mirrorless cameras and their first cameras for 2023.
The Canon EOS R8 which is an entry-level full-frame camera and the Canon EOS R50 which is an entry-level camera with an APS-C sized sensor.
Along with the two new cameras they also announced the RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM and RF-S 55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM lenses.
Let’s take a closer look at the key features of these two new cameras and lenses.
Canon EOS R8
The Canon EOS R8 is an entry-level full-frame mirrorless camera that features a 24.2MP CMOS sensor straight from the EOS R6 Mark II. It brings with it Canon’s latest AF capabilities and improved video shooting performance to the same body as the EOS RP.

The Canon EOS R8 will be available from Spring 2023 at a recommended retail price of $1499 US dollars.
Canon EOS R50
The Canon EOS R50 is a much more compact 24.2 megapixel APS-C mirrorless camera that has been designed to appeal to users wanting something a little more powerful than a smartphone camera.

Early Reviews
The Canon EOS R50 is Canon’s least-expensive RF mount camera. It will also go on sale in Spring 2023 for around $679.99 US dollars for the body-only. A kit with the RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM will retail for around $799.99, and a two-lens kit with the 55-210mm F5.0-7.1 takes the price up to $1029.99.
Canon RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM
The RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is a full-frame retractable kit zoom lens that is going to be bundled with the EOS R8. It will also be available separately for $299 in early Spring 2023.
When retracted the 24-50mm measures just 58mm (2.3″) long, this expands to 86mm (3.4″) at the telephoto end. The lens is 70mm in diameter and it takes a 58mm front filter.
The lens has a variable aperture of F4.5-6.3 and features image stabilization built-in.
On the side of the lens you’ll find an AF/MF switch and a second switch for the built-in image stabilization. There’s also the zoom and manual focus rings.
Weighing in at only 210g (7.4oz) means you’ll hardly notice that this lens is mounted to your camera.

Canon RF-S 55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM
The RF-S 55-210mm is an entry-level mid-telephoto APS-C zoom lens that will be bundled with the R50 but also available to purchase separately.
The lens features 11 elements in 8 groups, including two UD (‘Ultra-low dispersion’) elements. The auto focus is driven by a screw-type STM motor and it accepts 55mm filters.
The lens is around 94mm (3.7″) long when retracted and 135mm (5.3″) when zoomed out, the diameter is around 69mm (2.7″) and it weighs in at 270g (9.5oz).
The recommended retail price is $349.99 US dollars and it should be available in Spring 2023.
