Canon has announced two new RF Lenses. The RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM and the RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM.
The lenses are already available to pre-order and should start shipping to customers in late August 2022 for an estimated retail price of $599.00 and $549.00 (US), respectively.
Both lenses are optically-stabilized and have been designed for Canon’s full-frame and APS-C RF-Mount Cameras.
Let’s take a closer look at each lens.
Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM
The RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM is a wide-angle prime lens with a maximum aperture of F1.8 and a minimum aperture of F22.
The lens is constructed of 11 elements in nine groups, including one ultra-low dispersion element and one aspherical element, there’s a nine-blade circular aperture diaphragm.
It also features Canon’s Super Spectra Coating (SSC) to help reduce ghosting and flare.
There’s a 52mm front filter thread and a minimum focusing distance of just 14cm (5.5″).
The lens measures approx. ø2.9 in. x 2.5 in. (ø74.4mm x 63.1mm) and weighs approx. 9.5 oz. / 0.6 lb. / 270g.
The Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM is compatible with both full-frame RF-Mount cameras like the Canon R5 and R6, and also Canon’s new APS-C RF-Mount cameras the R7 and R10.

Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM
Along with the Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM Canon has also released the 15–30mm F4.5–6.3 IS STM ultra-wide-angle zoom lens.
The lens features a maximum aperture of F4.5 – F22 (at 15mm) and F6.3 – F32 (at 30mm).
The lens is constructed of 13 elements in 11 groups, including two ultra-low dispersion elements and on aspherical element, there’s a seven-blade aperture diaphragm.
Just like the 24mm, the 15-30mm uses Canon’s Super Spectra Coating (SSC) to help reduce ghosting and flare.
There’s a 67mm front filter thread and a minimum focusing distance of 0.28m (11.0in) throughout zoom range, when using AF and 0.13m (5.1in) in manual focus at 15mm.
The lens measures approx. ø3.0 in. x 3.5 in. (ø76.6mm x 88.4mm) and weighs approx. 13.6 oz. / 0.9 lb. / 390g.
Just like the Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM lens, the Canon RF 15-30mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM is compatible with both full-frame and APS-C RF-Mount cameras.
