I have heard that some people use flash in their humming bird photos and that at low power the pulse is so short that they are not bothered by it.
 
Simple answer, don't settle for anything less than excellent, natural light.....it solves all problems. Not sure why anyone would use a flash....
Ok. I would suggest that "natural light" does not solve all problems. A subject that is very strongly backlit may require some fill of some sort or extensive post-processing to derive a usable image. This is not in any way meant to be criticism as your photos are excellent. It's just a real-world observation. JMHO ;)
