I've done some research and I'm hesitant to spend $$$ on a Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT (Ver. 3) given the reviews on B&H and Adorama. On the other hand, I'm also concerned that the Godox will not work with my Canon EL-5 speedlight with because of the new hotshoe design. So, I have two questions for folks with flash trigger knowledge and experience: Is the ST-E3-RT as bad as the reviews in a WiFi environment? Does the EL-5 work well on a Godox X1R-C TTL wireless receiver? Here is...
This forum is maybe the least judgemental photography pages on all of the internet. Never a harsh word, all equal no beginners or pros , no read the manual comments just photographers enjoying chewing the fat sharing images thoughts techniques and lens camera comments good and bad, no software wars. A few laughs along the way. Glad to be a part of it. But boy oh boy researching R1 info in some Facebook groups gee some R1 users are down right nasty so ive learnt not to comment.
Thread 'MACRO conversion option?'
So, I have two thoughts for cheap MACRO alternative 1) 55mm Reversal Ring for my FD 50mm f/1.4 SSC in combination with FD-RF adapter on my R5. Camera | FD-RF Adapter | Reversal Ring | FD 50mm f/1.4 2) 55mm Male to Male Coupling Ring for my Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 SSC AND Minolta MC 50mm f/1.7 in combination with FD-RF adapter on my R5. Camera | FD-RF Adapter | FD 50mm f/1.4 | Coupling Ring | MC 50mm f/1.7 (reversed) Of course, I'd rather have a RF 100mm f/2.8 L Macro, but my wife say's I...
My wife and I are on our last day of our trip to Sicily, Italy and she has given the executive approval to lighten the load in my backpack. My camera is the R6 Mkii and all of my lenses are ef mount, so I am open to ef as well as rf mounts. On this trip, I brought a Canon 16-35mm f4, a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2, and a Canon 70-200 f2.8 ii. Over the last 6 days I only thought about using the 70-200, but didn't because I wasn't in a place to easily take off my backpack and switch lenses. I feel...
Is there a programme/app which can tell average focal length. Example have 700 images from a night rodeo all taking with 70/200 rf 2.8 trying to establish average focal length. Reson toying with idea of prime for second rodeo camera for side kick (the wife) either 135 rf 1.8 or 85mm rf 1.2 gut feel 135mm might be close to average but the extra stops of light with 1.2 is big as well for night rodeo. cheers all
Thread 'Swapped my R7...for an R10'
I had finally had enough with the missed focuses with my R7 and it's gone. This, after two trips to Canon Service for repair. The R7 II isn't available yet and I wanted another APS-C R body for my RF 100-500L lens so an R10 was purchased. My hobby is aviation photography Verdict: All of the autofocusing problems were now gone and the R10 has been performing beautifully. It will be an excellent carry over until the R7 II comes along. If your R7 is giving you annoying inconsistencies that...
I purchased the R7 as a mirrorless upgrade to my 7D MkII. I had already moved from a 5D MkII to the R for full frame mirrorless but I liked a crop factor body as an option with long lenses and wildlife or sports. To be honest, I've enjoyed shooting with the R7 overall but have been bothered by 3 things; shutter shock, rolling shutter and the absence of a vertical battery grip which I like with long lenses, especially with a small body like the R7. I recently did some birds in flight...
This has now launched and features various updates - the details can be found by clicking Here. (There is a 25% off everything launch offer, which can be found by following the links on the site). :) Phil
I bought a refurbished R10 on Black Friday 2024 and I've never seen a lower price. Today's Canon refurb deal comes close at $600. https://www.usa.canon.com/shop/p/refurbished-eos-r10-body?type=Refurbished
Thread 'Look what I found in my camera bag!'
Like a lot of us, I have several camera bags that I choose from depending on what gear I'm going to shoot with or where I might be going to. I have Lowe Pro backpack that I mostly use for storing gear in my camera closet but I sometimes take it on longer trips when I might be taking a larger amount of gear. It's carry on compliant so it sometimes goes on plane trips. I needed to move it the other day and thought, perhaps I should go through all the pockets as I wasn't sure what might still...
Thread 'Outdoor concert edits'
Some friends turned me on to a Rush tribute band named Rash. They put on a terrific show at the bass player's home in Auburn, California. I took more than 3000 photos and am trying to come up with the best 25 or so. Aside from straight-ahead musician photos, I took a few at very low shutter speeds to communicate the energy of the band. Do you have any thoughts on these edits?
Keep it short. Finally getting RP with kit lens from daughter back she borrowed it for a few weeks 14 months ago.... Anyway daughter in law wants to get into low light photography as does a good mate. Budget up to $3000 new or used. Both are gonna borrow RP to see if they want to take plunge into photography then buy. Ive suggested used R6 mark1 with 24/105 f4 I dont think its overkill some may say not a beginner camera talking Australian dollars. Thats about $2100 US dollars.
If anyone wants to take a risk, here's a Canon RF 24-105 at Goodwill. Auction ends May 25. Current bid is $36. Canon's refurbished price is $460. Used prices on EBay hover around $200. https://shopgoodwill.com/item/264787587
Been shooting more shows and it is clear I need a second body. Changing lenses is just too inconvenient. I have an R3. Could not be much happier (2 CF slots would have helped, but....) Its like it was made for me. Balanced with any lens. Cusotmized to fit my hand and mind. I really do not have budget for a second camera and concerned about "wearing" 2 bodies and lenses. So, the choices are: 1. R6 II - Refurb at $1700 is attractive. I'm sure it would do the job, but would I be foolish not...
Pretty rough around the edges. Im a high ISO warrior so use photolab
Dan Hartford from the Lightroom Queen asked members to post suggestions for a new blog. I kicked in a few things which took a bit of time for me to warp may head around using the catalogue system. That goes back to 2011 but I never forgot the few hard lessons and surprises during my first few weeks of navigating it. https://www.danhartfordphoto.com/blog/2026/5/lr031-15-things-new-lrc-users-should-know
Thread 'Calibrite 3.1 for Mac'
Got this email today. I'm also getting a message on the Mac Mini M4 and MB Air M3 that Intel support will soon stop.
Thread 'Exp.SIM Flashing'
About two o'clock this morning I was out minding my own business when... I couldn't get Exposure Simulation to work. Camera - Menu 7 Expo. Simulation has always been set to Enable. I could not view an estimate of the Simulation using settings like: f/2.8 - ISO 51200 - 15mm the screen never displayed and changes...just a dim/dark image, regardless of the settings. I did notice the Exp. SIM was flashing red if memory is correct. I did the usual troubleshooting Power/Battery nothing.
Was checking second hand gear. Banner across bottom something big is coming canon June 17th.
Some good tips on refocusing continually and giving yourself enough real estate. The real estate part I figured out pretty early :) As most know I leave AF on the shutter button which gives me an extra BBF for emergencies. At 11:27 is how I set up my 3rd BBF (AF point selection). I prefer to go from fast SS for shooting BIF to slow SS for static. To get more precise AF modes with Eye Detect "enabled" I set up the M-Fn to cycle through Whole Area, Zone, Single Point and Spot AF. I feel that...
