I've just finished testing over 60 memory cards in the Canon R5 Mark II. The R5 II isn't writing to the CFexpress slot much faster than around 490 MB/s when shooting RAW + JPEG L at 30 FPS. So because the vast majority of CFexpress Type B cards can sustain this speed and more, they mostly perform the same in-camera. There were only four cards that dropped below these speeds, which increased the buffer clearing times for these cards. The Prograde Digital Iridium 4.0 (400 GB) memory card is...
Thread 'Received my C50'
I received my C50 a few weeks ago now. I had a decent amount of time learning and using it. This is my first Cinema camera so learning that menu system was different from the photo menu. I am loving the image from this camera on both the video and image side of things. Feel to to ask any questions and I will do my best to answer them. If you have a C50 and would like to add to the post feel free. Canon C50 setup by A & R Photography, on Flickr C50 with V mount battery by A & R...
I am not an ON1 user, but I wanted to give this a shot and downloaded a copy. They offer ON1 Effects 2025 for free through January 12, 2026. Meaning, it will end in one day. https://www.on1.com/landing/effects-2025-free/
Thread 'Strange Ebay Seller Behavior'
I'm hunting for a used Fujifilm GFX100/100s/100s II, and noticed a weird Ebay trend where sellers with zero transactions have listed precisely two items: an expensive camera body and a "vintage" t-shirt with a description that may or may not match the photo. Here's one example of about a half dozen I've noticed over the past two weeks, but it happens with other camera bodies, too (Canon R5m2, Sony A7R, etc). There's no way in hell I'm buying from any of them ... but why the t-shirt?
Playing around with a speedlite 430EXii on R5 got given it by son in law to fiddly to operate with your fingers he said. Yup hes right but I digress it was a gimme so im using it for first time playing around. Set camera to auto seem to do everything its meant to. But go to manual settings boy lots of white blown out images real trick to this flash photography gig enjoying mucking about though. And angle of the flash makes huge difference direct off to left or right or straight up all...
Aiarty Image and its companion program Airarty Image Matting have caught my eye. I'm tempted to try the free trials of the pair. Has anyone got experience with this software?
I currently have a monthly subscription for Abobe; I only use Photoshop (never got used to or cared much for Lightroom). Years ago I had the standalone version of Noisware. My older version of Noisware is not compatible with my current OS, and I don't want to pay a monthly subscription just to use it just a few times. I currently ownt the following cameras; - Canon R6II - Sony A7c - Sony A7iv - OM System OM-5 Any alternatives for either a plugin or stand alone noise reduction program I...
Just checked count on internet app wondering how accurate count is. R5 says 239,000 seems way too high. But I did buy it second hand. Not sure wether to move it on or use till it dies as there are still brand new R5 mark ones out there, ive got no need for features of r5 mark2 You might think im a dill but hate to sell r5 to someone as there first camera after using phones all there life only to have it break down. Whats most common cause of death shutter failure? And last question can they...
...experience with Venus Optics Laowa lenses? Specifically, the Venus Optics Laowa 55mm f/2.8 Tilt-Shift 1x Macro Lens. How 'bout with tilt-shift lenses in general? For the VOL: Good quality? Mediocre? 'Run away! Run away!' kind of bad? For the T-S aspect: Useful? Not? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks!
Hi I have a Canon R6II and you can use ALO auto lighting otimizer + HTP highlight tone priority both "on" at the same time.... My previous R6 mk1 you had to choose either/or (both on at same time was Not possible). Looking to buy an R5 - Can you set ALO (on) + HTP (on) both at same time please? I shoot in jpg and want max dynamic range. Thanks
So, what are your favorite sources of photographic information and entertainment? Very Obviously, our own Tim Mayo’s RF Shooters and Alpha Shooters top the list! (y) 🎉 But being the hardware-agnostic heathen that I am (Canon, Sony, Nikon AND Fuji), I hang out at several other sites as well… So here’s my list… KenRockwell (very biased towards Canon, but LOTS of good reviews and other information!) Ken Rockwell’s R5II User Guide Ken Rockwell Z8 User’s Guide The Digital Picture...
So, as a Christmas present to myself this year I fell whilst hiking and completely destroyed my right arm. Which is my dominant arm. It looks like I am going to need a shoulder replacement. This means no photography and editing is very limited since I have to use my left hand. Has anybody had experience with the tour box for Light Room Classic that I've been seeing advertised all over the place I'm wondering whether I can use that to work a bit on Lightroom and at least feel like I'm doing...
If you need a new CFexpress Type B card then Amazon UK has an offer on for the Lexar Professional SILVER Series 256GB CFexpress Card, Type B. It's currently priced at only £83.28 at Amazon.co.uk (affiliate link). I'm guessing this is old stock as most other online retailers are now selling this for around £175.00 It is a limited offer with 30% already claimed, so I'm not expecting it to last very long. With the way memory card prices are going I wouldn't be surprised if this card costs...
I am seeking advice from all the gurus out there for the following. Recommendation for one easy to carry, easy to open camera bag, to carry R7 with attached Canon RF 100 - 400 lens f5.6 - 8 IS USM and R6 Mk 2 with attached Canon RF S 18 - 150mm f3.5 6.3 IS STM LENS Ideally, I would like to be able to access one or the other without having to repack the bag. I do not want a back pack Please and thank you
Thread 'Focus issues with light at 90 degrees.'
I've found over the years that with the sun at 90 degrees to the right or left of the target ends up with a soft image. This shot is a good example. at 1/8000th the image should be tack sharp, but instead it's soft. The image display shows the camera was locked onto the bird, but the eye tracking did not lock on, although if was on... Any suggestions would be helpful. I first found this problem with my 5D Mk II and Mk IV. Thanks in advance!! Bryan
After just over a year happily using Sigma's RF-S 18-50mm f/2.8 on my R7, I traded it in on Sigma's new RF-S 17-40mm f/1.8 Art in August. Yes, it's more expensive, bigger, and heavier, but wow! (It's about an inch longer and a bit less than 1/4 pound heavier than Canon's RF 85 f/2 and 28-70 f/2.8 lenses.) Sharp at f/1.8, it's a stop and a third faster than the f/2.8 full-frame standard zooms, more than overcoming APS-C's one-stop low-light and bokeh handicaps - which is why I've given it...
I've had my new R6 III camera for a couple of weeks now and can't work out why during a shoot about one in three videos that look like they are recording properly have 0 bytes and only a thumbnail when I take a look at the CFexpress card or download them to the computer. This seems to be a random failure and as my shoots are not repeatable I can't go back to re-shoot them. I've updated the firmware to 1.0.2 but that has not fixed the problem. The card is a 512GB Lexar Professional...
If you are planning to buy memory cards, SSD drives, laptops, mobile phones or anything at all that contains DRAM or NAND memory then the time to do so is either today or preferably yesterday. Prices are really starting to shoot up much more than I think anyone was anticipating. I received some updated price lists from card suppliers just before Christmas and their prices are up over 50% on last months prices. Transcend has apparently not received any new NAND Flash shipments from their...
