Thread 'What to do with this?'
There's an abandoned grader nearby, that caught my eye. I'm not really sure why, so I took a bunch of "test" shots to play with. I tried a bunch of edits, threw some Neo presets at it...and still don't know if there's really anything "there". The "hurling excrement at the wall and seeing what sticks" approach didn't work, so lets see what you think. First up, an "unsullied" view: One thing that caught my eye was the Fox grape growing out of the window (or at least where the window used to...
I found this article about Street Photography and while I understand the author hesitations I see Street Photography as a powerful way to visually document the daily lives of everyday people. I think that the author of the article is just too shy and worry when he is taking pictures of strangers. He virtually is not enjoying the process. And I understand that. Street photography is not for everyone. In another hand, when you are in a city like New York where you see photographers in every...
I was visiting a Photography Forum elsewhere and I read a comment a user posted about not liking Pre-Capture because they do not like AI. Isn't pre-capture just a better version of 'Spray and Pray' or pulling an image from a video...am I missing something here?
Paired with the R7. This tiny lens is pure joy to use. With decent light you can produce quality photos. I turned the control ring to control F-stops. On APSC, you don't want too Push more than 6.3. Yes there a limitation on this lens. No built in IS. No problem with the R7. I wish sigma would have made the wide end 10mm. The R7 gets very noisy in very low light. If you are thinking of buying the little lens. You won't be disappointed. Yes I have the R5 also. Both are a joy to craft...
A Digital asset management system with AI culling?? Not really a editor as such been hammered with a few ads had a quick glance.
…or on safari in Africa! Let’s see some of the Youtube hotshots come here and get good photos between November and April, when the sky is always one giant 18% gray card, the foliage is dead and the birds and animals have hibernated or migrated.
Thread 'RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM'
Although this f/1.8 is a good lens at f/2.8 for astrophotography, don't forget to use it for street photography as well. R5 w/24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM f/4.5 ~ 1/80 ~ ISO 50 ~ 24mm
I was reading about the R5 MK I and noted that the crop function reduced the pixel count to around 17mp in the image. The R5 MK II has a higher overall pixel count at 45mp. Can anyone tell me what size a cropped image would be ( I am referring to the aspect ratio change outlined in the manual) ie: the 1.6 crop in camera making the sensor effectively an APS-C sensor .
Thread 'R1 Sample images'
Very first chance to try the R1 and it's cold, dark and raining. . . . I must have spent well over an hour going through the menu system trying to get it set as I had the R3, few changes to the menu system made it a tricky start. To be fair - not my usual subject all a bit too stationary for me but one thing I can say - 100% the focusing is unbelievably fast almost to the point it's on the subject before I move the point. Just a few to get the topic started. all with RF 100-300 2.8 & RF 1.4ext

I mostly shoot portraits of family members, typically my grandkids and sometimes the children of friends. If the pictures are just everyday types with casual poses I don't do much more than crop and adjust some sliders for exposure, highlights, shadows and color. But if they are of a more formal nature I tend to do more and will clean up faces that might have acne or other blemishes. I use a program called Portrait Pro Studio; it does a good job of smoothing skin, lessening wrinkles. It ads...
Thread 'Took the plunge'
I part exchanged a couple of cameras so I could acquire the R5 Mk II and today was my first shoot with it. Certainly not disappointed so far!
Can anyone help. My R7 is on v1.4 firmware and there is a 1.5 and a 1.6 version available. So I tried to update following the process outlined by Canon. No Joy. Tried everything, like re -downloading the updates, resetting the camera, removing battery , using a different battery, using a new SD card, reformatting card(several times), have a very good card reader so cannot fault that, checked the download was a good one etc, etc, all to no avail. The process was simpler on DSLR cameras but...
I watched Netflix documentary “buy now the shopping conspiracy” And how companies want things to last 2 or 3 years before needing replacing or technology and consumers think it needs replacement to keep up with latest features. I sort hope cameras at 8/10;years with hobbyist use
The Creative Cloud Photography Plan 20GB 1 year is on offer in the Black Friday event at Amazon UK/ EU for £62.99 (£5.25 p.m. equivalent). Be it lenses bodies cards accessories gimmicks software? Probably get cards maybe. Will check if any magnetic filter packs at good discount. Edit data management system like mylio or peak2 or photomechanic have BF discounts? See Sony have new top end body everyone is raving about. I don’t own a R5ii but isn’t the Sony similar or just one notch above Sony $9000 Australian and R5 $6700 bit of daylight between prices. Being one of the slower ones on this forum when looking at camera when I...

I'm getting ready to finally order the RF 100-500mm lens and have been reading old reviews and watching some YT videos just to get up to speed. I saw that there are reports that over time the lens tripod mounting collar stops holding the lens in the position you want, it seems the felt rings on the inside that mate to the lens get compressed and even if you twist the thumb screw tightly the lens tends to not lock into vertical and slips. I read several various posts on forums saying the sent...
