My wife and I are taking a trip to Germany and Belgium later this year, and I'm tempted to take just one lens with the R5m2. But I can't leave the RF 45mm f/1.2 at home because ... well ... because it's f/1.2. As it happens, I have recently acquired a good selection of Canon FD and Minolta MD prime lenses. Canon FD: 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8, 135mm f/2.8 Minolta MD: 28mm f/2.8, 45mm f/2, 50mm f/1.7, 58mm f/1.4 I'm leaning toward the 28mm, only because I've never used that focal...
Thread 'Infamous R7 rolling shutter!'
I didn't notice it too much with the shots of just players on their own out on the field but when the background behind them was in the framing it becomes more evident. Really hope the R7 MkII will have this issue resolved!

Thread 'Photographers and Promptographs'
This morning, I published a new article on how AI bots generate shallow articles and images that I called "promptographs." Here is the link in case you may be interested, with a fair warning that none of the images, like the one below, is a photograph: https://www.keptlight.com/photographers-and-promptographs/
Thread 'Anyone on forum using one'
Badly want to hire one but seemingly impossible. Just wondering if they are truely head and shoulders above everything in canon line up. I know they should be. Specifically for night rodeos in my case R5 did ok in supplied image yes tad noisy I switched to r6ii shortly after this image noise was reduced a bit
The refurb deals on Canon’s Web site come and go sporatically. Right now the Refurbished Canon R7 is available for $1159, free shipping. I paid a little more than that for a refurb R7. So this current deal is pretty darn good. The refurbished Canon cameras are indestiguishable from new, except for the plain brown box. https://www.usa.canon.com/content/canon/en/search.html?q=Refurb+canon+r7&r=product
Currently planning a trip to Tokyo, and I'll be bringing along my R6II. Still haven't decided on the lenses. For recent overseas travel, I brought my R6II with RF 16-28mm f2.8 STM and RF 24-240mm f4-6.3. The reason why I'm having second thoughts about bringing either of those two lenses on this trip is because I''ll be traveling during rainy, monsoon season. These two lenses are not weather sealed. Here are my other choices: - Canon EF 17-40mm f4.0L (with EF/RF adapter) - Canon 70-200mm...
Has anyone created a photo book? I’m considering doing one, and wanted some recommendations, tips, tricks, etc. I’m looking at some of the online photo book sites like Shutterfly or some of the others. Any experience with any of the sites? Any tips on how to prepare the photos? I’m starting my research now, and any direction here would be greatly appreciated.

Thread 'Canon FD lens to Canon RF adapter'
@StevenAunan convinced me to give this a try. The two lenses are Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C. (II) released Jun 1973 and a Canon New FD 28mm f/2.8 released June 1979. I use these on my Canon FTb released March 1971. For this setup my focus was on the forward edge of the cutting block the glass pitcher of flowers is sitting on... 36" from the R5 focal plane. I used the same ISO and only changed the Aperture, then shutter speed. Edited in Lightroom for Camera Neutral for the profile and Auto...
Thread 'Canon RF-S 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM'
I bought my R10 at the back end of 2024, with the 18-45 kit lens, as that was the best financial option at the time. A year and a half later, I found that lens a bit limiting, and I also had a gap in focal length once I bought the 100-400. Now I have the 18-150, and its the perfect walkround lens. These are straight out of the camera, no post production.
If you buy anything from B&H, be sure to set a reminder to check its price about 20-25 days later. B&H will refund the difference if your item has gone on sale up to 30 days later. Just call Customer Service and ask for a price adjustment. This has saved me a lot of $$$. Also, if you are a member of the Professional Photographers of America, remember sure to use their link to get your PPA discount at B&H. This can save you up to 5% on many different items. I have been intrigued about this lens every since it was announced. Was waiting for the R7II ? Nothing so far. My local camera store had the 24-105 on sale. Now I own the 24-105 2.8. First impressions. Pared with the R5. Spent a few hours at Washington Park-Arboretum Seattle. This is a super lens for landscape photography. The only drawback? Fairly heavy to pack around. The 100-500 is lighter. If you are thinking of getting this lens. I did and love it. I am more of an artistic sort of...
Thread 'Vintage 58mm: Helios 44m-4 vs Minolta MC Rokkor PF'
Comparing two adapted 58mm lenses on the R5 Mark II. Edit: I manually added lens metadata with the Exif Editor Tool from the Apple App Store, but it isn't showing up here. Minolta MC Rokkor PF 58mm f/1.4 (SR mount, $76 from KEH) Helios 44m-4 58mm f/2 (EF mount, $100 from Ebay / Ukraine) I like the Minolta colors better, and the bokeh is smoother. The Helios seems to be a bit sharper, or maybe the background separation is just different and it looks sharper to me. (All images exported from...
Thread 'Sigma 17-40 f/1.8 + R7'
I love the Sigma 17-40 with my R7! I considered the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 before buying the Sigma 17-40 f1.8. It’s fairly expensive at $919 which is $260 more than the 18-50. The 18-50 has more reach but I preferred the 1-1/3 brighter aperture of the 17-40. I was also sold on the internal focusing and build quality of the 17-40. It’s quite sharp wide open at all apertures from the center to the corners. In some comparison tests the 17-40 out-performed some of Sigma’s prime lenses. Plus, I found...

My R7 firmware is now 1.8.0. I’ve been using it for about a month with no issues. https://www.usa.canon.com/support/canon-product-advisories/Firmware-Notice-EOS-R7-Firmware-Version-1-8-0?srsltid=AfmBOorDozm72nGMErFDPQjwBWmhAw_rMh7MXpjMgeAY0YEHCTih2u9W
What is everyone's thoughts on the viability of the R3 in 2026? I may have the opportunity to pick up a used R3 at a good price. Though it's supposed to be in only fair condition. I haven't seen it yet and don't know what the shutter count is. Is the R3 a worthwhile addition to an R6 mkII in 2026? I'm probably not going to replace the R6 mkII anytime soon, so this will be in addition to. I like the form factor, the integrated grip, larger battery, and the 195fps seems like it could be...
Hi I have Canon R8 and plan a trip to Italy (Veneto region) & Paris. I have 3 RF lenses : RF 24-105 f/4 L IS USM, RF 14-35 f/4 L IS USM and RF 100mm f/2,8 L IS USM Macro I do not plan to bring the Macro lens, but I am wondering if only take the 14-35 was a good idea. My prefered focal lenght is 35mm, so I am covered with both of them. What do you think ? Is taking only one of them is a good idea or bring both? I do not like to switch gear, so when out, I will only take one of them. Note...
