Well lending camera ole faithful RP to daughter going to Japan and kit 24/105 and nifty 50mm hmmm never gonna see that again. So went hunting second hand stumbled across R5 body only. Aware of scammers but seemed ridgey didge I thought, cash or bank transfer no postage will not sell without buyer viewing using at my house. Sent Facebook message responded with his mobile number. Ok was in big smoke so went for a look and was roughly right dollars. Entered his house general chit chat he...
I’ve done a fair bit of focus stacking in macro/closeup type stuff. I know it’s also used for landscapes and the question occurred to me “What happens when you stack photos of moving water? Does the water turn to mush? Does one use a faster shutter speed and let the “softening” come from the stack?” I was all set to ‘speriment with this last weekend, but the little waterfall I chose to try this out on wasn’t moving - it was frozen solid!
Can you think of a situation where you would want to filter the RF 200-800mm lens? I’m planning to buy the lens before going to Alaska. It has a 95mm filter thread, and I’m wondering if I should get the 95mm adapter for my 100x100mm Haida filter set. What are your thoughts?
I saw this video from Steve Perry (I know, he's Nikon centric, but the info is non-manufacturer specific) regarding exposing for highlights or shadows. He makes an interesting argument about the exposure triad - shutter speed, aperture and ISO - and how we treat ISO. Seems, according to Perry, that that the noise is always present and raising ISO only highlights it. He does a better job of explaining it, so watch the video .
Thread 'When it comes to software, I have three questions.'
I want to know "what it is, how it works and if I can break it". I saved a depth map stack out of Helicon, just for excrement and hilarity. When I opened it, and it was all grainy - as it's supposed to be - I wondered if I could make Topaz Denoise lose it's little mind, so I tried...and the output looked exactly like the input. Disappointed, I took it into PhotoAI and told it to denoise it, sharpen it and balance the colors. Miracles were not worked:
My dad has invited the family on a 7-day cruise to Alaska, and I'm trying to set up my R5m2 for the trip. Looking through various YouTube tutorials, I found one that explains how to set a custom button to instantly switch from photographs to 120 fps video with the appropriate 1/250 shutter speed. This seems especially useful for Alaska, and I don't want to mess with the menus or the still/movie toggle switch to do that. The bottom line: while in photo-shooting mode, you can touch the red...
Not sure whether this is a mistake or not but at that price, the lens is only £1000. Seems like a cracking deal for someone. https://www.cameraworld.co.uk/canon-r5-ii-rf-28-70mm-lpe6p-bundle.html
So I started my social media with my phones like most, moved to M50, the 2x6D Mark II then 2 R6's now 2 R6 Marks II's. Man the R6 Mark II's are amazing good for video and photo and easy to use and understand like the previous models I owned. Full time youtuber now. But NOW I bought an R5 Mark II after watching several videos and reading lots up on it, mainly wanted a great A Camera that also could do great food pictures and did not overheat in 4K. I downloaded the manual, watch several...
Of the numerous Youtube channels I’ve watched, a surprising number of them are from the UK. They always pronounce “Nikon” as “Nickon”. Here in the states, I’ve always heard “NY-con”. (And Paul Simon can’t be wrong, right?). I’ve always wondered which pronunciation is correct. Today, through the magic of the Al Gore Rhythm, a video came up in my playlist where a Japanese woman was talking about “Brand names Americans mispronounce”. There in the thumbnail was the familiar black and yellow...
I need two monitors for the R6 MarkII, I mainly record cooking videos for youtube but I need a bigger screen than whats on the cameras. Thanks in advance ATx
Thread 'Oh, Neo, you so silly...'
Playing with a shot I took today of an old barn, in a driving snowstorm. I don't usually use the presets in Neo, because they're usually cheesy, but I will occasionally mouse over them, just to see what they do. Sometimes I see something I didn't notice or it gives me an idea for a direction to go. Somehow Neo got the idea that my completely white sky and snowy ground were clouds....and I give you "Barn Floating On Air".
Thread 'Canon RF 16-28mm F2.8 IS STM Announced'
Canon has announced the RF 16-28mm F2.8 IS STM, a fast wide-angle full-frame zoom with a slightly more budget friendly price tag of $1,149.00 in the US or £1,249.00 in the UK. The lens is constructed from 16 elements in 13 groups, with 2 aspherical lenses and 4 UD elements. At its long end, it has a minimum focusing distance of 0.2m (7.9"). The lens is weather sealed to provide some protection against dust and moisture. A lead-screw type stepper motor is used for focusing and it also...
Hi All Question: I have the Canon ST-e3-RT, and have purchased a Godox Flash Kit, with 2 x Godox SK400II-V*2, question is can i trigger these flashes with the Canon Trigger. This is my first foray into studio flash, and am struggling to get them to trigger, or is the answer to get the Godox trigger? If it can be done i would appreciate a few pointers to get me up and running Thanks
When lenses fail, do they fail slowly or all at once? I took my used 17-40mm to Europe last year and it worked great on the R5m2. Today I took the lens off the shelf for a spin, and It fails on both the R5m2 and the R7. And it fails with both of Canon's EF-RF adapters (with control ring and without). When connected to the R7, it hesitates for a long moment and then appears to enter Manual Focus mode. But the image on the LCD screen is static - as if it's in permanent photo preview mode -...
The hobby has grown enough that I’m getting jobs on the regular, ie turning into a real baby whisperer. All the Moms are talking and I’m the topic so I figured I better make it legitimate. Introducing: Profiles & Light Photography www.profilesandlight.com I figure it’ll be easy enough for this to cover a vacation and some L glass every year. I’m not posting as self promotion as I think a lot of members are international, but I’m pretty proud. Happy to receive any feedback on the site...
Thread 'How much ISO is too high ISO'
I primarily shoot wildlife, and over the years, I’ve changed my shooting approach multiple times. Initially, I shot in manual mode, but I eventually transitioned to Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority. In both modes, I decided to leave ISO on Auto. This configuration allows me to focus on other aspects of photography, such as composition and white balance. At first, I set the maximum ISO to 1600. Over time, I gradually increased it to 3200 and eventually to 6400. These changes didn’t...

Thread 'R1 tripod / strap mount'
Have seen this from a few users now - I like many others have used Black rapid or like straps that have a single fitting to the tripod mount on the base of the camera - I have used these on all my 1D series bodies with lots of different lenses inc the 200-400 so heavy kit and never had an issue. HOWEVER - it seems that the design of the plate on the R1 is a lot flimsier (photo's below grabbed from one on the FB posts) I noticed that Canon have added a proper strap mount on the bottom BUT...

Thread 'Favorite photos from 2024? Biggest disappointment ?'
I'm not much of a nostalgia person, but I just started my 2025 folder and it made me wonder what I thought was THE photo from last year. I think it was this one, from last February - which sort of means I was wasting my time the rest of the year. :p I asked myself what was the WORST one, too but then I realized all the truly awful ones went in the bit bucket...so I looked through for the biggest disappointment. There were a bunch that made me ask myself "Why does this exist?" but I...
