R8 firmware update 1.6.0 is available on the USA Canon website. https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/eos-r8#idReference%3Dadvisories I just completed the update. All seems to be good.
What we want: More telephoto reach. What we have: EOS M6 II (plus three lenses - 32 f/1.4, 11-22, and 18-150) and we also have an RF 100-400 f/5.6-8 (purchased for my RF mount camera - I’ve since purchased the 100-500 and have four other RF lenses. 16, 35, and 85 consumer primes and the 24-240). What we’re pondering: Do we get the EF-EF-M adapter and purchase the Canon EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS II USM and use on the M6II? Or keep the RF 100-400 and pick up an R10? With the R10 + RF...
Thread 'Rookie Mistake'
I was so focused on trying to manually focus the images I didn't see the composition. My bad, don't be like me. FD 28mm @f/16 EDIT: 6 image focus stack

Thread 'Winner Winner chicken dinner'

Thread 'Lens Dust Cap'
Yes, it did take a bit of handlings/juggling, so I have ZERO idea why Canon thought RF 1 was an improvement over the EF design. I doubt I will be spending $40 ($8 x 5 lenses) for Version 2 that fixes their design error... they should be giving them away for FREE! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1970928-REG/canon_lens_dust_cap_rf.html/overview
Thread 'Minolta MD 45mm f/2 vs RF 45mm f/1.2'
I am pleasantly surprised by the Minolta MD 45mm f/2 that I got at KEH for $65, so I decided to compare it to the RF 45mm f/1.2 that cost me $470. First, the Minolta is tiny. Second, although the Minolta is old school tech from 1978, it actually competes pretty well in sharpness at apertures above f/4. The corners are never as sharp as the Canon, but the center is pretty damn close at almost every aperture. I'm not going to spam the forum, so here's a sample at f/5.6. Canon on top...
Thread 'The most interesting thing about the R6V Announcement...'
... wasn't the camera, or the lens, or the new lens caps... But this new Canon bag. I kind of want one. But it doesn't seem to be listed anywhere on Canon's website. I won't get started on this girl in the red body suit, or her weird hand next to her face poses that just seemed...weird.
It is available on the Canon USA website, released today EOS R5 Mark II Firmware Update, Version 1.3.0
I currently have the EF 24-240mm f4-6.3 on my R6II, but I'm thinking about replacing it with the RF 24-105mm f4.0L. I like the idea of a non-variable aperture lens. Has anyone here used both of these lenses? If so, what are your thoughts?
Thread 'Canon News Alert - May 13 Releases'
“On May 13, 2026, Canon will be announcing the EOS R6 V camera and RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ (Power Zoom) lens. Both will be available on their own or as a kit. At this point, most things are already known about the camera, but we do have some more information on the lens, as well as a pricing update.” https://www.canonrumors.com/canon-eos-r6-v-rf-20-50mm-f-4l-is-usm-pz-pricing-info-and-more/
Hi Having recently purchased a R5 I was trying to find out the compatibility between it and flash units. I have 3 main flash units. The units are (all Canon) 580EX II MR-14EX (ring flash) MT-26EX (twin head) The Canon documentation for the R5 does not reference them. Newer versions of these models (MR-14EX-RT and MT-26EX-RT) are referenced in the R5 documentation. From my technical viewpoint I cannot see why they should not (safely) operate with the R5. The hotshoe looks identical to...
I would like your opinion? Canon APSC. Can never be a pro camera.? Would you pay the same price as a R6III if the R7II was released as rumored? A true successor to the 7DII. The R7 is Canons longest running camera not being updated. Canon seems that video is the priority. I am a stills photographer and Love my R5 and R7 combo. The R7 needs to be updated. what photographers don't talk about, low res view finder, useless shutter, one the cheapest shutter buttons ever put on a Canon. These...
v1.3.0 should be released soon. AND (drumroll please), guess what function they are adding? "Added ability to assign Pre-continuous Shooting to customisable shooting buttons." 🤩🥳 Finally! This has been of my biggest pet peeves! I always use the back AF button on my Z8 and A1II to begin caching the pre-capture mode! It'll be nice to have this on the R5II.
Hi everyone, I'm new here and new to Canon and looking at getting the R5C. I'm trying to put a lens list together for my purposes which at present would be the bare minimum to migrate over from my Pentax K1 and Nikon D500 systems and be light enough to whack into a backpack for aircraft travel. As I mentioned in the Intro portion of the forum my interests are wildlife, landscape, macro, astro, and video. For wildlife currently I use the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 and 600mm f/4, while for...
What are you guys using for gear insurance? I’m not a professional photographer, but I have a pretty decent inventory of camera gear that I would like to protect. I keep seeing various adds on Facebook for gear insurance, but I’m pretty sure most of those are some sort of scam and won’t pay out if you actually need it. What’s good and reliable and a decent price?
Thread 'Canon FD 100mm f/2.8'
First day out with this lens. In retrospect, I should have spent more time at the wheat field.
When I post my photographs how do I add the camera metadata for the pic? Is it included within the jpeg, or do I need to write it in? Thanks
