I find the camera settings interesting for the Top 3 in the January 2026 Competition – Travel and Places. Settings listed first place, second place, and third place. Camera: R5, R3, R5 Aperture: f/8, f/5.6, f/9 ISO: 100, 50, 100 Shutter Speed: 1/250, 1/200, 1/100 Focal Length: 53mm, 24mm, 200mm, [Wide-Angle, Standard, Telephoto] Time: Morning, Midday, Evening. Looks like there isn’t much variance [other than focal length] in camera settings no matter what the lighting conditions were.
Has anyone installed the new firmware for the RF 24-105 f/4 L yet? Takes it from version version 206 to 207. Allows full time manual focus and the ability to use the focus ring as a control ring. When using for video it enables the adjustment of apature without the clicks you get with the control ring.
Thread 'Who had the R6ii shutter issues'
Just got camera back from repairs. At rodeo last night mechanical high speed continuous push shutter a run of images 4 or 5 seconds. Then after a while shutter wouldn't turn off once released another 7 or 8 images before it stopped happened all night Servo mode 70/200 not that lens matters Was problem identified and solved? I did search couldn’t find it Cheers chaps
Hello All First thing I want to say is that I have spent a good amount of time looking at the photographs on this site. They are stunning. Being the newbie that I am, I feel like I’m swimming around in the very deep end of the pool. Way over my head. There is some first class stuff on here. Now to my point. I have been reviewing some of my pictures, and with a few lucky exceptions, they all look like the opportunistic snapshots that they are. Most all of the shots on here appear to me to...
Thread 'R7II'
Is anyone excited about the rumored R7II? What are your wishes you would like in the R7II? I ,as you know like the R7. Its long overdue for an upgrade. Will Canon finally give us the best APSC on the market? RJ
Thread 'Which raw editor for ipad? Camera jpegs look better than edited raw'
Last year I changed systems, used Olympus/Panasonic cameras from the start of digital photography. Apart from the first years I have always shot raw and preferred the results over the camera jpegs. Used adobe for a long time, first on laptop and later on my ipad. But when subscriptions became more expensive I bought Affinity 2 and was quite satisfied with the results. Now that I have the R50 the colours from the camera look more natural than the Affinity output. So much better that I want to...
Thread 'This a first for me'
Weird effect from rolling shutter. There had to be have been at delay but at 40 FPS it would a tough to know as it would be a millisecond. The tip of the wing got left at the head. It should have been attached to the entire wing :)
Another rodeo Saturday night part of accreditation course. People screamed out for images where can we see them thats last , out of respect to pro guy showing me the ropes wont put any up till next week. See shotproof zenfolio pixie-set and views or ideas what I could/should use if I go down this path?

Thread 'Noise reduction extreme iso'
Probably highest iso ive ever shot Photolab 9 did a good job
Hey there, I have had my EOS R for about 7 years+ now. It has been a wonderful camera, serving my needs to photograph portrait and landscapes. Loved the build quality and for bringing me into the mirrorless world. Recently however I've found myself doing a lot more Sports photography (Swimming, Water polo, Baseball...). And managed to get some decent shots, but boy is it a painful and frustrating experience. The AF is unreliable, the fps is very low and most of the time misses the meat of...
Thread 'Photoshop v 27.3...'
Now out... The new features are explained by Colin Smith at PhotoshopCAFE, and the new Adjustment Layers are also demonstrated by Julieanne Kost. Phil
I have been using LrC since 2011 and have never had a single issue. I set up my travel catalogue on the laptop as I have been doing for years. New catalogue as usual and I don't have access to my previous RAW files by design. It makes me get out and shoot. I bring a few hundred of processed Jpegs in case I want to reference something. I was trying to create a preset where I export and re-import as a TIFF to apply 3rd party app sharpening if needed. (Topaz or ON1 Tack Sharp). Super...
Did a local shoot on Australia Day locals got citizen of the year young citizen etc etc at 10 am in morning well lit sporting complex. Any way had moderate issue with the town mayor who had glasses did quite matter how I did it flash no flash plus she was moving around a bit and post processing you could reduce glare/reflection a little once the event finished turned off lights and just used natural side light or combination of it and flash bouncing off roof made all difference . Council...
Thread 'Advice Needed'
Got a question zero point asking on social media to many boneheads, a technique question. Where should I focus with this image rider or animal I chose animal two reasons it has largest eye compared to lady and if it couldn't get eye would have chosen horses head/zone.Or is R5 good enough to focus on lady? original r5
Introduction After years of using both Canon and high-quality third-party LP-E6 batteries, I wanted to verify if OEM batteries truly offer superior performance. Because third-party batteries often "spoof" the camera’s State of Health (SoH) data—falsely reporting 100% health regardless of actual condition—I moved to independent hardware testing to find the truth. The Test Rig Tester: Atorch DL-24 Load Tester. Battery Holder: A modified Canon battery magazine. Note: This adds some fixed...
Hope everybody up north makes it ok during this winter storm. I have no concept of what serious cold is. Down here in coastal Georgia we panic when it gets below 40 degrees. Y’all be careful, and remember to help your neighbors when you can. SwampGrizz
"How I find Secret Photo Spots" by Christian Möhrle is a video by one of my favorite photographers on YouTube. He gives some really good tips, in my opinion, on how to find, and plan, new landscape locations. I also think the technique would also work just as well for urban/city photography.
Thread 'Pictures of Your Main Camera Bag/Case'
Post up some pictures of your primary camera bag/case loaded up and ready to go. I went to Hawaii back in July with my wife for a work convention. (We were there during the tsunami). For that trip I bought a Tenba DNA 16 Pro messenger type bag to carry my camera stuff with me on the plane, including my R6 mkII with battery grip, my 24-70 and 70-200 as well as my then new Sirui 35mm anamorphic and my Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM lens. It worked well enough and accommodated the stuff I wanted to...
Thread 'Full Frame VS Crop'
Theres a lot of bias for full frame over APSC. I use both formats. R5-R7. Plus Rf 24-105 F4, Rf 100-500 and Sigma 10-18 F2.8-18-50 2.8. The Sigma glass, really makes the R7 a complete kit. Birding with the R7 and 100-500, even in low light is pure joy. one shot at a time, with continuous AF. plus, ES. The R7 is one of those rare cameras That make photography a fun hobby. The R5? Also, a great camera for birds and do it all kit. RJ
