This was a flash setup with multiple flashes so the specs were 1/200 ISO 100 f/11. I think the most important factor (other than my luck getting them at just that time) is the flash speed which if I remember the workshop leader telling us was 1/20,000 sec but the flashes were also at different low powers and at different distances from the flower and the background.

It was part of a workshop. The leaders are experts in this and one reason we go with them.

Can you post a sketch of the flash setup. 2 or 3 flashes? More? Did you do test shots to check the exposure prior to catching the money shot?
