Nice owl... interesting to me as none of the Australian owls have visible ears...just round faces, and none have yellow eyes. The eyes of this one also have different shape and colour...maybe the sun in the left one..which makes it more interesting. Is this a local resident or did you chance upon it?

Thanks! It's interesting you point that out. What look like ears are really only feathers.

While I was watching this one, it kept closing it's eyes (blinking) separately... one at a time. This might be what lead to the uneven looking eyes in the photo. I just think he was keeping a very close eye on me!

This one is a local resident. It has a nest in a dead tree nearby. I have also photographed it's 2 fledgling owlets in the same location recently.

Thanks for the eye article...we rarely see owls but they are around and sometimes seen while spotlighting at night...just saw the latest photo post of the chick with no "ears"...thanks again
