There's an idea for another lounge - guess what this is? I would not have guessed without seeing the the original. Nice job of processing!

Thank you. I usually only bin pictures when there is obviously no redeeming feature.

With previous cameras there were not enough pixels to play with. If I used 10% from an early picture the pixel clarity would be too distracting.

This picture, so far, is my best picture I didn't try to take 🙂

Very interesting. What would be most interesting is to see if you can "recreate" this image intentionally and describe the process that produces these results. (y)

I can tell you exactly what happened. I was standing on the balcony getting ready to shoot the clouds and sunset. I was fiddling with the settings and accidentally pressed the shutter. I wasn't even aiming at anything. You only have to look at the picture this section came from to see what a skewed angle it is.

As for reproduction, I'm not sure. That picture was pure chance. A similar picture will be contrived.

What I have done in the past is take pictures in a car on the motorway, someone else driving. Have the camera on a slow shutter, about 1/15 second. The aim is to allow the vibrations of the car to affect the camera. Turn off any camera shake prevention. Best done at night after heavy rain

It's still interesting, and in my humble opinion, a contrived image is exactly what we produce through composition so I have no problem with this technique if it produces an image I'm happy with. I find even those images I capture in a flash without much thought or shoot to capture an uncontrolled moment, I will often crop to satisfy my mind's eye. I like your results. :)

I agree, composed shots are contrived. I mainly shoot what I see and not interfere with the subject. For instance, I took a pic of a flower in the garden, there were 2 branches of flowers against a dark back ground that was nicely out of focus. The 2 branches were one behind the other and the composition was cluttered. As it was it was a non descript picture, but I pushed one branch out of sight and instantly had a great picture, a contrived one :).

My abstract was chance not planed or contrived. to do it again it would be contrived.

You could say what I did in a moving car is contrived, in as much I deliberately set it up to get camera shake, there was no way I could interfere with the subject. We all make a decision with exposure even if left in auto. Therefore I don't think exposure is part of the "contrived" part of a picture, in as much , in the way, I capture a picture
