I bought the Canon R6 in 2024 to replace my Canon R7. After researching the market, I decided to go with the R6 instead of the R6 Mark II. Why not the R6 Mark II? Price. While the Mark II offers notable improvements, particularly in video features, as a photographer, I found that the R6 suited my needs perfectly while saving me some money.
From the very first moment, the autofocus on this camera impressed me—especially the Eye AF when shooting portraits.
A common criticism I’ve seen is the 20MP resolution. However, this hasn’t been an issue for me, even as a wildlife photographer who crops heavily. Once you understand the limits of how far you can crop, 20MP still provides plenty of room to maintain decent image quality. On the plus side, the lower resolution requires less processing power from your computer and takes up less storage space.
I've been an amateur shooter for years. I never really tried to learn or get better until my nephew came to be and I wanted to take photos of him. I ended up researching a lot and ended up with the R7 mainly because it was the newest body with most of the features I wanted and could afford it. I have been more than happy shooting my nephew's sports and also ice hockey that I am heavily involved in.
