Fast, sharp, and lightweight! A great lens
Pros
  • Fast autofocus
  • Lightweight for the type of lens
  • Compact lens
Cons
  • External zoom (if that bothers you)
  • Cannot be used with any teleconverters
This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event that lasted for hours with occasional breaks and not feel like it was too much.

It's an external zoom, which bothers some people but I like the compactness. It can't be used with any teleconverters and that definitely hurts. But other than that this is one of the absolute best lenses I've used.

A great lens
Pros
  • Sharpness

  • Size
Cons
  • Cost
I used to have a 70-200 f2.8 Mk I. This lens is in a different league for image quality and size/weight.

It is, dare I say it, small ...

It weighs a lot less than the older lens and can easily be carried as a walk around lens for a few hours without issue - I have done this and did not notice it.

The focus speed is great. The weight and size incredible for an f2.8 lens ... and the image quality even wide open simply stunning.

It is sooooo sharp ! Contrast great too.

I think of all the RF lenses I now have this is the best 'value' in terms of all it's attributes.

It balances well on an R5.

It is just a great lens., more than that is hard to explain .. try one and get one !

Do you not find it disappointing you can't use a TC with it?

The plethora of choices with the 70-200 is a bit daunting. There was an EF version that came in a couple of flavors and at least two versions of the RF version? (Not counting the forthcoming version).

This is a focal length range I am quite interested in and plan on renting one for a test drive, but not sure which one. Is there a "II" designation or do I look for the 2.8 model?
