I shot the eclipse with my Canon EOS R6 mkII with a rented RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 lens and my Canon EOS R7 with RF 70-200 f/4 lens, both at full extension. I definitely should have sprung for the RF 1.4x or 2x extender units. I thought before hand that 500mm would be plenty, but I had to crop in...
My daughter and I had a miraculously fortunate eclipse chase.
We got out a bit later than we wanted to. Heading south towards Broken Bow/Eagletown, it became clear that the skies weren't going to cooperate and were pretty well overcast.
We finally decided to just pull over at Hugo as we...
The 85 1.2 is has to be my favorite lens. I rented it last year for my daughter's senior pictures. It's almost like it just takes the pictures for you. I was amazed at the quality. Wish I had the money to buy one to have full time.
I'm going to head south to either southern Oklahoma, or North Texas to shoot the eclipse.
I have my R6mII and I just picked up an R7 to shoot. Will probably rent an RF100-500. But I'm thinking about that Sigma 150-600 also. Will probably use my RF70-200f/4 on the R7 to try to get some sort of...
I just ordered an R7. Should be here today.
Getting ready for the eclipse, and I want to get a bunch of test shots and have plenty of time to learn the camera before the eclipse.
I had the 24-104 f/4-7.1 when I first got my R6. But eventually sold it and got the f/4 IS USM version which which better and not that much bigger or heavier. I think you'll be happier with the f/4 version. Or better yet get the 24-70 f/2.8.
You can remove the solar filter during totality. The sun itself will be totally obscured by the moon during totality and is safe for viewing by the naked eye and wont damage your camera sensor. But you need to put it back on once totality ends and the sun starts being visible again.
There are...
Someone help me. I’ve gone deep down the rabbit hole of star trackers. I’ve got some wicked GAS going on now and I don’t think my wife is going to be happy. 😬
What are everyone's thoughts regarding an R7 for eclipse pics? I've got enough that I could get an R7 and an RF 100-400 f/5.6-8 lens. Or I could get the RF 100-500 f/4.5-7.1 lens.
Since I sold my 60D last year, I don't have a crop sensor camera. And I didn't have any good lenses for it anyway...
Those are both very cool photos. I love the ring of the stages around the totality.
I definitely want to try to get one of totality with some of the solar flares like your first shot.
The next full solar eclipse (in the US) is coming up on April 8th.
The family and I drove up to Missouri to experience totality and it was one of the most amazing events I've ever experienced. But I didn't get any good photos as I didn't really know what I was doing. This will be the last one...
The only reason I take the grip extension off is when I have a dummy battery and power supply attached to it. Have to take it off to put the power supply in the battery compartment. I wish the grip extension had a notch to be able to pull the cable all the way through so you could use the power...
