Hoverfly (Ischiodon scutellaris, 9.2mm long)
The insects were hanging on a tiny and thin grass stem. At a glance, it looks like they are kissing each other.
Actually, they are .........
This photo was taken with f/9 1/200s ISO 6400 (focus stacked)
These photos were taken in natural light, one hour before sunset. Handheld in-camera focus stacking mode (Focus bracketing / depth composite enabled) was used with 10 shots/series in CRaw format. I used Canon DPP (focus stacking and editing) and Topas Denoise AI (noise reduction) in the post-processing step.
I took these photos at around 0.3m, magnification of around 1x. In order to obtain enough DOF, for a single shot, f/11 or f/13 with 1/200s and ISO 6400 or above should have been used. By using in-camera focus stacking mode, I could increase the DOF. Moreover, I could lower one to three f-stop i.e. f/8 1/200s and ISO 2000-3200 was used.
