...many people (including some birders) do cartwheels over images of male cardinals. I agree...they are stunning photography subjects.

But I think I prefer high-quality images of female cardinals--good photographs of female cardinals often reveal depth and texture that you just don't see in any other species. And you certainly don't see these features with the naked eye.
