I am learning how to photograph birds in flight.
My takeaway from this photo: Hand holding at 500mm and waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting for the bird to take flight is NOT the best option. I had just lowered my camera when he took flight.
Both tripods were back in the motel room...didn't even cross my mind to use a monopod.
Lesson learned.
