This area used to be the wintering grounds for most of the waterfowl in the central flyway. I used to pay rice farmers for leases on their land for hunting but that was 15 years ago and since then there have been several droughts and also a lot of growth in residential housing north towards Austin so less water for farming from the Lower Colorado River Authority; after all rice takes a lot of water.

I drove back roads around Eagle Lake and Lissie, Texas and finally came upon a large feeding roost of birds in some cut rice fields. Couldn't get too close as the road was flooded but got some shots once they took flight. Nothing like the sight and sound of thousands of geese and cranes getting up when they get spooked.
