Birds R7 and RF 100-400 for birds

I’ve had this setup for about 4 weeks now and I‘m still blown away by its capabilities. The way it locks on, and stays on, to a bird’s eye is uncanny. This shot was taken through a double glazed window, JPEG SOOC, auto-enhanced and slightly sharpened in IOS Photos, and slightly cropped.

I've ordered one just to use as a lightweight comb for my R7/R6. Canon refurbish had them for half price so I just had to try it out. I have the 100-400L ver2 plus a 1.4xiii that i really like but it just gets heavy on trips. Hopefully the IQ will be good enough to satisfy me. If not it will still be lightweight!

Your picture looks nice particularly for 4000ISO and as you say through the window. Your windows are a whole lot cleaner than mine!

Thanks Gary. Yes, I forgot to mention the R7’s performance at high ISO, in my view simply astonishing.

The rig does pretty good with the 1.4x TC added also -

Sooc jpeg thru double pane glass, touched with Irfanview.

Nice picture, and it seems that your windows are even cleaner than mine! As it happens, I’ve been mulling over whether to add the 1.4 extender to my setup, so this has been helpful, thank you.

A little secret to you both for the R7. The EF 200mmL 2.8ii prime is quite exceptional for all around wildlife, BIF, sports, etc. and it works very well with the in camera ibis. You can pick up great copies for less Than $500 bucks and works very well with canon or sigma extenders. 2.8 and f4 allow for more depth of field on a crop sensor so are extremely useful in low light situations And keeping more of the bird in focus.

Too short for my stuff. I'm shooting 896mm eq. and have to crop often.
Now a 1200mm might be interesting, except for weight and price.

As mentioned in june pics r6ii 100/400 1.4 TC and cropped in camera not post came out of elusive wanted to fill the frame sorry not r7 camera as per thread
