Cool pics, but they don't look like they are from the 1800's.

I guess being in Florida, they're supposed to be Seminole?

Yes, they are supposed to be Seminole. Keep in mind that Seminole tribes were a mixed of africans and natives.

In another hand, I think that in many cases in this reenactment event many of the participants just dressed as native or american soldier depending on their preference and no because of their ethnicity. For example, I ran into this family dressed as Indian and all of them are blue eye white people.

In another event that I participated organized by the same group I mentioned one of them that he did not look like a native american and he avoided to comment about this by telling me basically that seminole were a mix of ethnicities. Up to what point there were white people amount them in the 1800s I do not know. I think that for sure there were those cases but I do not know if within the tribe they still were treated as native or just as white people living within them.

According to Google:
"No, traditionally, white people were not considered part of the Seminole tribe; the Seminole people primarily descended from indigenous populations of Florida, with a significant number of African American slaves who escaped and joined the tribe, known as "Black Seminoles," also contributing to their ancestry; however, there have been instances of intermarriage with white people over time, though historically this was discouraged within the tribe. "

The Seminoles were originally part of the Creek Confederacy prior to the Removal. Once European settlers started moving in, some of them split off and went south into Florida. Others went west with the Creek Nation and settled in Oklahoma to form the Seminole Nation.

The Federal government didn’t recognize the Florida Seminoles until the 1950s, and they have a lot of European and African mixed into their bloodlines. I don’t remember if they were included in the original Dawes rolls or not.

My tribe is part of the Muskogee (Creek) nation in Oklahoma. But we don’t allow photography, or audio or video recording of our ceremonies.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot of made up ritual and ceremonies among people who call themselves Native, but which only dates back a few decades. You won’t see the real traditional ceremonies in pictures or video.

JCBigler, your input is really appreciated! This event I don’t think that it’s organized by natives.

This group studies the battle where Dave and his troop was defeated.

These events are done in the actual location of where the battle happened. They have a little Museum there.
