There's big event this weekend so I got R1 loaner. Tried it on Wednesday to learn how to use. The pre-cont mode is very interesting, just need to re-train my muscle memory. On other cameras I need to press down when I anticipate something to happen. With R1 I need to press down on "oh, something did happen" moment. With my testing, the 0.5 second window is still bit tight, the shutter needs to be pressed right away when I saw something. If I took moment to consider was it worth capturing, it was already too late.

Now one day of actual action. It's interesting.

I used the pre-cont mode all day.

For one, it reduces "bad burst", as in with R3 if I think something is about to happen I have to burst, but if it didn't I'll have wasted film. With the R1 pre-cont, I can wait to see if something actually happens.

However. First problem is my muscle memory, it tends to shoot as I anticipate, so I need to constantly think to wait to confirm.

Second problem is that you get ~15-25 pics per burst now. Earlier with R3 I was hitting more like 10-15.

Third problem is that when I snap something non-action, I'll get the 15-25 pics too when I needed 1 or 2. I think if I set custom mode I could quickly swap between pre-cont on/off, but given loaner I don't think I need to learn that deep.

Awesome camera for sure, but is the pre-cont worth 2x (ish) price compared to R3. Not really.... sorry Canon. Anything else feels fairly similar.

Couple pics from the event. I don't think I can tell difference between R1 and R3 images.

Fast, sharp, and lightweight! A great lens
This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event...
