A good lens for what it does, with it's drawbacks
Pros
  • Small
  • lightweight
  • Surprisingly good photo quality
  • Great for travel
  • Very small hot spot when used with infrared
  • Large zoom range
Cons
  • not weather sealed
  • No macro capability
I have had this lens since it came out and it is my lightweight go to lens for walking around in the city and using my infrared-converted camera. It's a great little lens with a great zoom range that gives me surprising good quality. My biggest wish is that it would have a better closer minimum focusing range.

Exceeded My Expectations
Pros
  • Huge zoom range (10X) can handle scenery, intimate shots, portraits
  • Excellent travel lens (carry one lens and one body)
  • Just zoom, compose and focus!
Cons
  • Not weather sealed (I don't usually choose to shoot in the rain)
  • Relies on computer to correct defects in iamges
I was fully prepared to not really like the Canon EOS RF 24-240mm lens, but I bought one on the used market because a friend was very pleased with it and I respect his opinion. He was right! I've used it on a RP (the garden landscape at 35mm), a R6 (the car tall fin detail at 100mm) and a R6 Mark 2 (my grandson's portrait at 240mm) ... versatile to say the least. Lightroom takes care of all the lens corrections required. I get to travel with one body and one lens. What's not to like?

Canon 24-240mm
Pros
  • Light weight.
  • Good focus response.
  • Programmable focus ring.
Cons
  • Vignetting in corners but removable in Lightroom
The lens isn't the top of the line, but works well as a travel lens since it is light weight and has a good reach for most all situations. The vignetting is easily removed in post on all photos when importing. The lens is not as sharp as Canon "L" series lenses, but that also can be alleviated somewhat in post especially with the R5's 45 megapixel files at 16 bit.

I also bought that lens for the same reason. I had a Tamron 28-300 for my old 5dMIII. It was a good general purpose travel lens. The Tamron lens won't autofocus with the R5, so I bought the the Canon lens. Tamron says I can send the lens in for a firmware update, but that's not something I wanted to do.

I am seriously considering purchasing this lens as my carry-around.
