I download the newest upgreade version 1.90 formatted cards in camera, full battery, was suggested i be in P mode. downloaded from europe and usa site. camera recognized there was an update started the process as soon as it shows the Verson for upgrade and before i touch anything, the camera drops out of menu and shows a ready to shoot screen. I have tried using updated from both cards without success. any suggestions? thanks

Hi David,

In the absence of any other replies, the only regular f/w update 'snag' I know of is that you must put the update firmware file in the root of the memory card (i.e. not within a subfolder). However, this doesn't appear to fit the failure scenario you describe...

(Canon also advise not having a lens fitted, but I've successfully done updates both with and without).

I've not come across an ongoing update process 'drop out' before. If you do find the reason, please come back and let us know - it may help others.

Phil

I've not heard of anyone having similar issues in our R5 Shooters Facebook Group where there are quite a few more members than here. Maybe a camera reset then trying again might do the trick. Also are you using a genuine Canon battery?

I have tried with and without lenses. I have canon batteries. i have put the upgrade the the root directory, trying each card separately. the only think i have not tried is a full camera reset. the limited amount of changes the upgrade offers might not be worth a full reset.
