If you take the price of the EF 200-400 when it was introduced and adjust it for inflation, it's about the same.

Couldn’t afford that one either. I’d sure like to see a 500 5.6. 600 5.6 even better.

Couldn't afford it then. And since paychecks don't keep up with prices when it comes to inflation can't afford it now.
I tell myself my picture taking isn't good enough to deserve a lens like that.
