After I finished shooting along the shore I went inland. Anuahac is largely lowland near the coast southeast of Houston. The name derives from the Nahuatl, formerly referred to as Aztec language meaning "close to water". You get a typical mix for this wet coastal region; herons and egrets, ducks, coot, rails and moorhens, stilts and spoonbills. On this trip I saw a lot of red winged blackbirds as well. There is a good rookery that is on property managed by the Audubon Society with viewing platforms to get a better look at the nesting birds but sadly the vegetation has grown up a lot since last year so it was a bit harder to get good shots of chicks that have hatched in the nests.
I shot with my R7 and the Tamron 150-600mm with a 1.4x TC which gave me an effective 1344mm lens. My other camera, the R had the RF 800mm f/11. I shot more with the former combination as having a zoom helped for cropping in or out as well as even with the TC it's a bit faster than the 800mm.
