Hi all

I see quite a few people shooting with a cage on their camera (usually smallrig). What are the benefits of having the cage fitted?

Hi all

Personally I like it better for external monitors, cable clamps, top handles and even protection out in the field. I usually go Smallrig myself. They should have one by June for the R1.

I have the Tilta cage for the R5M2. It has an Arca-Swiss base, 3/8” and 1/4” mounting points, and a cold shoe, so I can mount multiple accessories or suspend the camera from a top handle without using the hot shoe. I also like that it offers some protection in certain spots. But it’s not a critical item.

I have a cage for my BlackMagic BCC 4K, also a Small Rig. Makes it easier to mount extra accessories like a top handle, the USB SSD, microphones, etc.. I’ve thought about getting one for my R6mkII, but I don’t usually run extra accessories with it and it seems like it would be a bit too bulky. Plus I run the battery grip also, and I don’t think they make a cage that includes the battery grip.
