Yes I had to do the same before it recognised my camera too.  Even once the updated software recognised the R5 it would not transfer the FIR file.  The thing that I don't get is the message I get on the camera that a firmware file older than 1.6.0 is on the SD card which must be deleted before updating - there can be no such file as I have formatted to card (twice now)!   Something I did notice on the Canon site was that the latest Ventura Mac OS tranche is not listed there as an option - I wonder if that is an issue here?  I had no problem downloading the files but maybe they are corrupted if Canon's OS list is out-of-date?  Edit - it occurs to me that it may take a considerable time to update the camera firmware - how long would people assume?  The trouble is I see a box text that tells me "upating firmware" but with no timer and with a 'live' option to click next, which shows me "Failed to Transfer Files".  Am I jumping the gun on the file transfer to the camera?  I'm just not used to seeing the next stage of a process being clickable before the current one has finished.
