I took some test photos in July, using high speed continuous + on my R6, of cars driving down the lane past my house. Checking them recently I noticed an odd phenomenon with the rear lights of one vehicle - a 2017-18 Land Rover Discovery. The lights are circular and appear to be comprised of four 90 degree sections - as the car progresses various sections of the light (usually one or more vertical pairs) appear to go out or re-appear from frame to frame. The attached image crops, which illustrate the effect, are sequential. Has anyone encountered a similar effect or have any ideas as to why this should occur? None of the other 5 cars of various makes I experimented with exhibited a similar effect (although they did not have the same light construction).

The taillights contain a bunch of facets that reflect light in multiple directions. As the car moves the way in which that light is reflected changes. Stand in a parking lot, look at a taillight and then move forward and backward, left and right - the look of the light will change.

The lights will be LED based, and as such they pulse on/off many time per second. Nothing surprising here at all.

Thanks for the comments. Surprised that only one of the cars showed the effect - down to the individual construction I guess. The Discovery was the only light design that was so apparently segmented.
