Granddaughter's 8th grade girls soccer season has started

Well it's time for 8th grade girls soccer (or football as it is known everywhere else) to start and you guessed it... my granddaughter asked me to photograph her and her team in action this season.

Love when a game starts at 4pm as the light is really good for capturing action, I shot mostly at 1/2000 but later at when the clouds parted at 1/5000 sec, with my Canon R7 and RF 70-200mm lens. Love the 15 shots per second feature with the only drawback being I had to cull through 600 images from a one hour game!

And they won the match, 4-0!

Well done Chris. I have shot our Grandson's football (soccer) a few times and light is always a factor. I have not shot his games with my R7 yet but really can't wait to try.

I’m wondering if that last image is showing the effects of rolling shutter. We’re you shooting in electronic shutter? If not, that’s a weird over-extension of the knee. Nice images by the way.

No, I rarely use the electronic shutter due to the rolling shutter problem and 15fps is fast enough for me. That's actually my granddaughter and yes, her knee tends to overextend. Same thing happens when she straightens out her arms.

The girl's team played Thursday night and had a make up game last night. Nice thing is that the sun is going down later so I don't have to just rely on the stadium lights until after the first half of the game. Sadly they lost both games. They have a new coach who I think is less experienced. The team is just off on their offense so the majority of the games were played defending their goal.

FWIW, I don't worry too much about noise in the shots towards the end of the game when the ISO creeps up. Most of the kids use the pictures on their social media sites. I do a batch denoise in LR as I edit. If I was making images for prints or larger display I would use a denoise program.
