Well, I took my best guess at settings and jumped in 100%. Shot the whole day with a TV (shutter priority) type approach. Locked shutter at 1/2000, auto ISO (100-300 most of the day), and approximately f/5.6. Weather was sunny with fluffy clouds around, but I still managed to get a mild sunburn. I opted to run ES for the entire event and see how it looked once I got home. Pretty much mashed the shutter for every pass and came home with 12k photos. Most were trash (too far, poor angle, jet wash affecting clarity, etc), but the ones that hit……..REALLLLLLY HIT. Import/DNG conversion in Lightroom was an overnight affair. Never experience that before. DXO PureRaw turned good shots into GREAT shots. I’ve added a few below.

My take aways? Wear sunscreen, I’m not as young as I remember being, and don’t be afraid of Electronic Shutter.

Ed

Those are some fantastic shots. Good work culling them from the trash!

Some cracking shots here Ed. Looks like a great show!

Some absolutely fabulous shots you've got there! Well done!

Great work. Very crisps shots. Little bit jealous of the CF18. I have yet been able to catch a show with any of the Canadian hornets

Your post revived this one. I re-noticed that was with R6II. I have it and had the R7. I recently sold the R7. R7 is very good but whenever I had to make a shot count I'd pull out the R6II.

I must admit I hadn't notice the age of the post. I'm amnewcomer and have a life-long love of all things aviation so just looking through a few topics of interest.

Noting wrong with that. I was very unsure about my move but opening this thread helps. We will see what the next generation of bodies has to offer.

I'm verrrry tempted to buy another and just sit on it. I loooooove it.

No worries, I'm still alive and kicking. Got another aviation shoot on the 25th of May up in Pennsylvania. F-16 demo team and the Blue Angels again, but this time I have access to the photo pit! Same cam and lens, so we'll see what I come away with this time.

I'm looking forward to your shots. I am waiting for the R7II but with the Rumoured specs of the R6III I don't know. I said I'd likely not get it as I really like the R6II but with the possible stacked sensor and advanced subject detection (which the R7 would likely get) it may sway me.
