Hi, first post on this forum. This may be a stupid question but it is at least sincere. When I use Long Exposure Noise Reduction, is it necessary to keep the camera on the tripod unmoved during the dark frame or can I move the camera and just be sure to not turn it off? It is a dark frame after all....

Thanks!

Long Exposure Noise

Different animal to high ISO noise
Bright spots white, blue or red
Hot pixels or glow in the dark pixels
Caused by long exposure greater that 10 sec.
Number increase with exposure time

Long Exposure Noise Removal

Two methods - In camera and In post

In camera –
Make sure Long Exposure Noise Reduction
Option is On
Two images Light and Dark
Dark one is taken in camera without open shutter
Camera blends to remove noise
Excellent result but requires double exposure
Good for single images
Not good for time lapse or astro
Each image taken requires double time
Interval time must be greater than exposure time

In post –
Two images with same exposure
Take dark image with lens cap on.
Light and Dark taken after light
Process in editor (PSE) as JPG
Open both images
Select light image, copy dark onto light
Select Layer mode then Difference
Merge all

In both cases the camera can be moved.
