I thought I would give Microsoft ICE a try for stitching a panorama. I was surprised how fast, easy and intuitive it is. That's probably why Microsoft discontinued it. It is still available for download.

You can save the resulting file as: JPEG, TIFF, Adobe Photoshop, Deep Zoom Tileset, Windows Bitmap, PNG, or HD Photo.

I chose 5 shots to stitch.

I chose "Automatic crop" and the result's were fast and very good.

The above image is dumbed down to 13.4 MB.

Original stitched JPG - 132 MB
TIFF - 247 MB
PSD - 482 MB

I wonder what would have happened to the file size if I had used IBIS High Resolution shot?

Microsoft ICE (Image Composite Editor) is great.

I've been actively creating panoramas for a long time. I bought 2 different panorama creation applications that were pretty good but required a fair amount of manual work to produce decent stiches. When ICE came out I tried it and was amazed. It just works. Better than either of my purchased applications except in a very few difficult cases where I had done a bad job taking the original photos. It has been years now that I've used anything other than ICE.

Here's a recent example of an offshore storm taken at Road's End north of Lincoln City Oregon. From 6 images using ICE.
