New Lens Day

I'm a technophile and gear lover, and as such get very excited when a new piece of equipment shows up.

Right now Mr. FedEx man has my RF 85mm f2 on his truck, and needs to pick up the pace a little bit

How do you keep busy on new lens day?

UPS has that "track your shipment" thing where you can follow the brown truck's progress on a map. WORST THING EVER. I live about 500 feet as the crow flies from the post office where the UPS truck loads packages that transfer from the US mail to UPS. Once the driver loads at the PO, it takes him another 90 minutes to two hours to get to my house. It takes every fiber of my being sometimes to stop myself from heading him off at the gates out of the PO.

OMG, New Lens Day! Those are the best (next to new camera day). I usually try to work in my front yard and look up at every passing vehicle until it comes!!!

I try and buy local from my camera shop, especially when they are running a Canon special. Saturday is No Tax Day at Tempe Camera for Canon so I'm hoping to find the RF 70-200mm F2.8 or the RF 28-70mm F2 in stock. It's about an hour's drive but they are great guys there and I always enjoy the conversation that comes along with the purchase.

My new lens day is tomorrow so it's a trying to keep calm day today. Delivery between 9.15 and 12.15 from UPS, so I'll be looking out for that brown and gold with my 100-500 on board all morning.

I'd love to do this, but I live out in the middle of the Catskills. I will occasionally make the 2 hour drive down into NYC to visit B&H or Adorama.

So as I mentioned, I try and buy my lenses locally. Canon was having a "We pay the Sales Tax day" today and tomorrow (5-21 and 5-22) for stock on hand. I missed the RF 70-200 F2.8 by one day. I was also looking at the RF 28-70mm F2 but not in stock. Also no RF 50mm F1.2 ... so now I'm the proud owner of the RF 85mm F1.2 DS lens. I'm beginning to believe that camera stores are dangerous for me. Now I need to find someone to stand still long enough for me to use it.

We have all seen how packages are mistreated so our anxiety level is heightened immeasurably by that as well. It's ironic how insignificant items we have shipped to us arrive quicker than expected, perfect condition and without issue yet the things we cherish, fawn over, are driven by G.A.S. and obsession seem to always have shipping delays, tracking errors, crushed packaging and unreadable barcodes. For some reason, when I order a camera body or lens it is usually scheduled to arrive on a Friday, is of course late and the beginning of a 3 day weekend. Don't get me started on ordering vintage bicycle frames from Europe and dealing with customs holds.
