I just wanted to comment on these competitions.
They are guiding me to be a better photographer, in that, I'm really trying to better compose the photos when I'm shooting and doing less in the post editing.

I also just passed an anniversary; I've been taking pictures for 50 years now. :)
I am so glad I found this wonderful forum!!
Thanks to all of you for your inspiration!

I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying the monthly competitions here Mike. Happy 50 Year Anniversary too :)

Happy anniversary! I don't know how many years I have been snapping away...first SLR was 1976, but there were years shooting 126 cartridges and 127 rolls.

This (and other) groups keep me interested in improving and trying something new.

Congrats!!! This will be a fun thread. Probably about 40 for me. I went to Hawaii with a buddy in 1982. He had fancy Minolta SLR and did a lot of slides. He also did B&W which he developed himself.

Sometime around then I got interested in Photocopy. Got my own Minolta SLR which I really never used to its full potential. It wasn't until I got my Canon 20D in 2006 it really took off. No film to pay for so the sky was the limit for shooting. Also after getting the 20D I started to find all the online stuff. Between unlimited shooting and all the sharing of knowledge in real time on forums was huge for me.

However before all that digital stuff around the mid 80's I really got into black B&W and discovered Ansel Adams. Read all of his books, built a 4 by 5 field kit by Bender and had a dark room that could do both 35mn and 4 by 5 film. I'm glad I went though that phase but I'll never go back to the darkroom again unless I win a lottery. I might set one up as a personal museum :)

In 2015 we drove to Phoenix for a vacation. On the way home we spent a few days in Santa Fe and took a side trip to Hernandez. We think we found the spot where Ansel took Moonrise Over Hernandez from. It was what the locals told us anyway. Just to be there was awesome.

Sounds interesting...I should Google "Ansel and Moonrise Over Hernandez" and see what it's all about.

Moonrise Over Hernandez spot. Somewhere around here:

Driven past it a lot of times and completely forgot about its significance😳. Next year I'll be in the area and might drive up there to check it out.

I guess the locals were correct. I have a picture of that abandoned gas station just up the road from the GPS mark. I stepped out for the day and not by the computer. I’ll post when get home.

Santa Fe was an unplanned stop on the way home and we didn’t realize how close Hernandez was. We weren’t really prepared for it.

If you look at the map Kamoshika provided it is just to the left of this old Gas station.

I figured the shot was somewhere to the left because of a church we spotted.

We drove to the church. It didn't look right but I took a picture anyway. The highway is on the other side of the church so the moon would have been behind us. Maybe that is why.

Fast, sharp, and lightweight! A great lens
This is my main workhorse of a lens and I love it. It's very light weight (only around 2.3 lbs) lens. I've been able to hand-hold it for an event...
