In general I feel ~20MPix is enough for sports, I never cried over my 1DX (Mark1) pictures.

Just shot some beach volleyball with R5, and noticed how much you can actually zoom in and still have ok details.

What are you using for your lens? That also makes a difference with the higher MP cameras. Those are some pretty impressive details you retained in the crop!
