Please don’t degrade into political argument not into it will delete.

Are tariffs gonna affect USA members of this forum for photographic equipment be it cameras sd cards tripods anything?

Just wondering and presume no ramifications for rest of us, Australia for instance or should we be watching thing as 4 months time stuff maybe 15% more.

I’ve basically got all I need camera lens wise but other fiddly stuff cards expensive enough as it is.

And if mods choose to delete this I’ve got no issue with that

I recently bought an SSD drive and the label said it was made in Vietnam. Today I looked up the tariff info, and Vietnam puts a 90% tariff on US goods. I would say that the 46% reciprocal tariff will cause higher prices here in the US. But I’m not an economist or a trade expert…

Here’s the tariff info for selected countries.

Virtually everything we use in the photo and video camera industry is made outside of the US and imported. Cameras, Lenses, memory cards, chips, sensors, accessories of pretty much any type.

Only Red is making cameras in the US, and they probably still use sensors and chips made overseas. Micron is the only memory company making memory chips in the US (and not all of them at that). And I think only a few high end commercial camera systems for industrial use are made in the US.

Every other consumer and professional camera system is made outside the US.

So I expect the tariffs to affect the entire industry. I think it's still a bit too early to determine by how much, but I wouldn't be surprised to see price increases of 25% across the board for everything.

Some things we may not be able to gt at all. I think DJI is on the chopping block.

Unfortunately, the Trump admin just made up those numbers. They bear no relation to the actual tariffs charged on US products anywhere. NZ, for instance, imposes no tariffs on imports from the US.

For those of us outside of the US, it’s the knock-on effects on world trade that are most concerning. Uncertainty times.

so even stuff like dxo French , capture one danish, luminary neo Ukraine, pixlemator Lithuania all these will have a tariff for US users forced to use topaz or adobe?

With a 25% tariff on Japanese imports Cameras are bound to go up, I suspect your prices will be similar to ours are at present, it will also affect on-line purchases and all those bit and pieces like cards and storage will rocket in cost as Vietnam is a major source of those items.

I wasn't going to take any chances on how good the tantrum tax was going to be for me. I figured Black Friday prices would never be that cheap again.
I made a list of every little thing I could want, and went on a shopping spree and bought it all.
Being retired and old and single I could do that. :)

The link above is to Tony Northrup’s observations. I think Tony is careful to 'stay out of politics'.

I don't think anyone knows if software products will have tariffs. There's a lot of software written overseas, for American owned companies.

I'm an audio guy, and use Protools by Avid for recording engineering. Protools is mostly written by programmers in eastern Europe these days and only the management and marketing people work int he US.

No one knows. Probably won't for some time yet.
