To ETTL or not to ETTL, that is the question...

So many of us will use flash on our R series cameras - but do you prefer to use ETTL or do you prefer to dial in your own flash strength (1/128, 1/64, 1/32, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 and 1/1) power?

Do you find better results using one or the other?

I've only used manual so far, and that's what I've been advised by people who have been doing macro photography for a while.

Perhaps I ought to give TTL a try as well, to understand why exactly.

I try to keep the power at 1/16 at most, or lower if possible, as that allows for very fast continuous shooting, which in turn helps get better focus bracketing (for stacking) on bugs that aren't sitting completely still.
