Hi folks, was trying some sport photos and at a football/soccer game. Whilst on tracking mode and locked on an individual the camera often didnt track well and jumped to another player. Did try various settings in tracking mode but with not much success. Any thoughts on how to improve hit rate…. Thanks

Hi, I would check what settings you have for AF menu section 5, initial servo AF point ........copied this from a brief I was reading on the R6.........this is an option which has been on the advanced level DSLR EOS models for number of years. However, it is an option that was not used very much, once we had focusing systems which incorporated the iTR AF Systems which could detect where the subject was providing they had a clear line of sight. Prior to the system appearing on the cameras in 2014 the way the autofocus worked, it had a focusing point which you could position where the camera started focusing and then once it started at that point, if the camera was on Auto select all of the autofocusing points became active and could sense the subject if you were using Servo AF. So if this looks familiar to you that’s the reason why. With the new technology in the cameras, this menu based option is now making a lot more sense, especially where we have multiple subjects in the viewfinder such as with ball sports or if we are shooting a subject where there is no subject detection that will work automatically, such as in the case of an aircraft...................you might find if you are using auto all your focus points will pick up other players, try the other settings..............cheers

This is where I got the info from well worth downloading but will cost £17.95, Nina Bailey from Canon EOS writes some excellent pocket books and PDF`s to download, has really helped me get the most from my R6............and she also updates the PDF`s when there is a firmware update and you get a free download of an up to date manual.
