Is it possible to transfer files direct from either a EOS R or R6 to an external SSD rather than having to download via a laptop/pc as a form of back up? I have just got aa SanDisk extreme portable SSD and discovered it has a double ended type C lead so I was wondering if this would be possible?

As far as direct connecting the camera to a drive, I don’t think so.

There are a number of devices though that will copy SD contents to storage without a computer.

I have this one:

Connects to an external/portable hard drive and will transfer files from SD as well as provide a WiFi network to connect to attached hard drive.

Western Digital also makes a series of external drives that will transfer files directly from SD cards via built in card reader. A little pricier, the have both “regular” and SSD models
