One of the first signs of spring here is the emergence of Trout Lilies, aka Lambs Tongue.
I've only seen them in wooded areas. This one is just outside my back door, obviously under an oak tree. I don't know what the plant with the small green leaves is, but they are everywhere in the same wooded environment in the spring.
