Travel Visiting the Channel Islands.

My wife and I are going to visit Jersey and possibly Guernsey from August 16th till the 23rd. We have been looking at the normal travel guides and asking Google Gemini for recommendations as well as doing general Google searches so we already have a lot of locations and such on our "possible to do list".

I thought that someone here might have some personal experience especially with Jersey in terms of landscape photography locations or tips etc. We will be using the bus service there and will not have a car to use.

Hi Bryan,

We haven't visited Jersey, but we recently spent some time on Guernsey.

If you do make it over there we would recommend the following venues in St Peter Port: Castle Cornet (check out the mid-day canon!), the splendid Hauteville House (Victor Hugo's former home) - though you'd be wise to book in advance and prepare for a 'run and gun' photographic experience on the fascinating tour, and Candie Gardens (if you ask in the visitor shop they will let you have the keys to the nearby Victoria Tower, which you can then ascend). Overlooking the harbour you'll find the closest pub (Albion House Tavern) to a church (Anglican Parish Church of St Peter Port) in the British Isles. Featued in the Guinness Book of World Records, they are separated by a narrow pathway, with the nose of a gargoyle on the church being around 18 inches from the pub. Walk along the coast from St Peter Port and you'll find the beautiful Fermain Bay, which has a welcome cafe.

The coast is punctuated with military fortifications from varying eras and there are several museums covering the German occupation in great detail.

Travel-wise we mixed cycling with the bus service, which is excellent - if you're there for any time we would recommend you explore the Puffin Pass and associated pre-pay top-ups (purchase from the central bus station - and top them up there or on any bus). Of note, there is also an App which shows the location of the bus stops with the live positions of the buses. Riding the buses on the often very narrow roads is an experience in itself...

Check out the Little Chapel, which (we think) is also on a bus route and worth a stop-off if you're passing that way.

If you get time a day trip to the nearby Herm Island, which offers a charming coast path, is also worth considering.

Been to Jersey a few times stunning place.
The beaches are epic, with some great viewpoints and best explored at low tide.
A must vist Le Corbiere Lighthouse vist at dusk ,or during some stormy weather .
La Rocco tower in St Brelades bay is another great place to visit especially at low tide.
Any of the German fortifications, as they are mostly intact, the Radio tower near the earlier
mentioned lighhouse, as well as at Le Plemont.
The devils hole on the north side of the island is a nice walk steep in places but viewing is superb.
We rented a car on our visits.
