There are 4 mysterious banding lines within the limbs....3 vertical lines and 1 horizontal line at the top. Does anyone have an idea of the cause? This is a new R5 with the EF 100-400 lens. I've seen it on a few other photos and am concerned

Since you're shooting with a telephoto, it looks like some kind of wire fencing that is blown out of focus. I usually see something like that when I take photos at the zoo because of the fencing. On your other photos, were they taken in the same area?

I see your point, especially since it seems to be layered behind the main limb.....however, this was taken in my backyard, overlooking a canyon view with no structures or wires anywhere near. I took another shot of the same location (no woodpeckers) this morning and there was no distortion. I have been messaging Canon and they admit that it is "indeed unusual". They had me open the CRaw file in their DPP program and the distortion still showed up. I'm still waiting for an answer back from Canon.

Hopefully nothing's wrong with your camera. BTW, awesome hummingbird photos in your gallery!

What is the humidity level at your home and was it the same on each day?

Is it the Predator? Was Arnold Schwarzenegger near buy :)

Sorry, no idea what is happening there. Could it be some form of heat haze?

Can you go back to the same spot with the same light and weather and get another shot of it, or something very similar. See if you get the same effect.
