I took the new RF 16 mm F2.8 STM for a short walk to downtown Budapest and the Danube riverside. Gotta learn some new shooting styles, coz as I've experienced in certain cases there's a lot of foreground involved. When cam was held leveled everything is free of perspective distortion, yet when looking up the PD immediately becomes evident. Please scroll though these pix and enjoy them. Tips and tricks are most welcome! :)

Some good shots there. I've just got that lens but not had much chance to try it yet. Looks excellent for interiors, like churches and cathedrals. Did you shoot these in Jpeg or raw. I'm planning to revert to .jpg for this lens to utilise the in camera distortion corrections.

Thanks Dcweather. This ultra wide angle lens has it own learning curve. Gotta experiment a lot. I always shoot RAW and wish to stick with it. Any jpg in-camera correction can be done on the RAW file in post. I use latest Photoshop where the profile of this particular lens is also embeded and barrel distortion correction is done instantly. As regards perspective distortion, ...well, ...that's a PITA, have to do it manually until Photoshop comes out with a clever AI solution!! :) Thanks again for the tip.

I agree with you on the perspective issues - tilt the camera just a bit from level and everything tilts with it. Wide angle lenses force you to think about foreground, as a great foreground helps to keep the camera level and reduce tilted buildings.

I'll try and remember that when I get out with it as I am mainly a wildlife photographer but like to try everything really. I also shoot in raw but I thought the jpegs look pretty good for exposure Ii might cut out a step in PP. I imagine Canon DPP can handle the distortion in raw as well? Anybody tried it for Milky Way astro landscapes. Would have thought it would be ok. Soon be the season for that here if we ever get a clear night!

...posting from the midwest USA.

I've been fortunate enough to travel to England and France...but never to Budapest.

Next time!

Great images.

Nice little lens, particularly since I paid $179 for it. LOL. The perspective can be mostly corrected using Nik Perspective in the Nik 6 Suite. The Nik 7 suite doesn't have that, as DxO broke it out and replaced it with standalone Viewpoint4. (https://shop.dxo.com/en/dxo-viewpoint-4.html) Haven't tried it yet but reviews are good.
